How do you and your pouch get along?
I've really been pondering what makes the difference between winding up with a generally docile pouch and a pissy one. I know that surgeon's post op diet progressions vary wildly...some have you on liquids forever and some have you eating soft solids at 5 days. So, my thought is this: does immediate post op diet have any measurable effect on how things wind up pouch-wise?
I'd like to do a little survey, if possible.Could you guys let me know what your post op diet was like...and how you and your pouch get along? Enquiring minds want to know....
Thanks y'all

My post op diet was 2 weeks ONLY liquids, I was stupid and tryed to eat early out and it made me sicker than a dog, so I went back to liquids like I was supposed to be on anyways. At 3 weeks I was on soft foods for 3 weeks, till pretty much thanksgiving then I could eat cheese and some lunch meat turkey.(was afraid to try reg turkey for the fear of it being dry). Then I slowly intorduced things to my pouch 1 new thing a week, just like baby food. 1 a week. didnt try corn or red meat until I was about 4 months out, then doc said it was fine just as long as I chewed it all up and now swallow a huge peice of meat.
As for now Im 9 months out and I only do liquids in the morning, need to get my pouch ready for food, I cant just eat food right when I wake up have to have some kinda liquid in there or I have a pissy pouch day. But I pretty much eat anything just in smaller amounts. me and my pouch get along great.

Me and my pouch "chiki" get along fine, as long as I listen to it!
I was on the liquid diet for two weeks, then soft for 3 weeks. It's only been the past few weeks the surgeon has allowed me to include refried beans, turkey and chicken.
The only real problems I've had was when I ate regular yogurt (without realizing it), and over-ate (without thinking). Didn't vomit, but boy was I in bad shape for about an hour each time. The only thing I've found that makes my pouch grumble has been poultry that is too dry. It hurts and complains, then finally settle's down. I don't dare eat or drink anything till the pain subsides.

I didn't go through a Bariatric center...
I went to a surgeon here in the north. They don't have any BTC's up here. I was told to eat pretty much what ever I could tolerate. It was quite a trial and error period. I remember I threw up a lot for the 1st 6 months. I was going through my journal yesterday and looking at what I was eatting, and my weight loss and so on and so forth. I had a revision done a little over 2 1/2 months ago and now am still a little sick to my stomach everyday. Some days are better than others. I think it all depends on what I'm eatting.

I'm 3 weeks out and fortunately (or unfortunately) I've never gotten sick. I ate a cheese enchilada today (it was small). I ate a honey bbq chicken nugget yesterday. Yesterday and today I've had a hard time with cravings.
I've had bites of french fries and ketchup. I usuallly have a protein drink in the morning and either an egg white, cottage cheese, tuna, etc. for lunch. It's the evening that gets me. I'm not physically hungry, just mentally hungry. I'm going to start going to a support group tomorrow night.

Me and my pouch have a love/hate relationship. I have learned to live with it, but I hate the little thing. However, I AM THANKFUL for what it is doing for me and love it in that respect! It has given me a 145 lb weight loss that nothing else could have ever given me! So, I can deal with it. If I could do it again, I would, but I will have to deal with this decision for the rest of my life. I would elaborate on my eating, but everyone here already knows it's a struggle, even though better some days, it's still all just something I make myself do and one or two bites usually does me in. Yes, I started developing a stricture at 3 weeks out and let it go til 6 weeks out and almost had to have a dilation done emergently, and found I had an ulcer, so never got to progress to solids, was on full liquid diet for almost four month out before pureed foods again, so I'm not typical.

At over 3 months post op, my pouch (Oscar) is most happy when I drink water or Crystal Light or Carnation Instant Breakfast with a scoop of protein powder. He doesn't mind nuts (almonds). And most soups are good (liquid, right?). Three bites of solids is enough for him. One more bite and I get sick as a dog (yes, up it comes).
Mine, too, is a love/hate relationship. If I do what Oscar wants, I'm fine. If not, I'm not fine. I guess after about 6 weeks I was so sick of whatever it was I was ingesting at that time that I began to experiment a little bit. I kinda get it now.
Wendy's chili is good. Oscar enjoys that -- but not too much!!! Half of a side order (small) dish.
A sf fudgesicle always works miracles when the head hunger comes (when I'm bored, especially).

As always everyone has differnent results!! But, I was on liquids 3 days and then pureed for 1 week then at 2 weeks the dr told me just one thing at a time...i believe i had a bonless small grilled pork chop and did fine with that but alot of people are different!! I eat alot of meat more than anything because i cant handle milk or the protein drinks!! Your body will let you know when your ready and if you dont it will let you know that too!!!

We all seem to have pet names for our pouch... I happen to call mine "fickle bitch"... that very acurately describes our relationship...lol
Like Trina, I have issues with eating and drinking. I can tolerate most any food if I'm feeling okay for the day but mostly I force myself to eat. I have a stomachache most of the time.
