Default Goals, Height and all that other stuff

I'm 3 months from my 1 year surgiversary and 34 pounds from my goal weight, and am trying to figure out if the goal weight I set for myself is the right one. My doctor did not give me a goal, and I'm the type of person that really need a target.

I've been checking out everyone's signatures and scouring all the threads trying to compare myself to everyone else. I know everyone loses differently, however its motivating for me to see how other people are doing, and what their goals are. The problem I'm having is that even though most people put their starting weight, current weight and goal in their signature, not many people include height, and no one puts any mention of their frame size or ability to develop muscle. The reason the muscle development part is important to me is that, I personally put on muscle very easily, and since muscle is heavy, I figure that if there is someone else out there who is 5'7" tall, but doesn't develop muscles well, I would tend to weigh more than that person, see where I'm going with this? Likewise, finding someone else who is 5'7" but has a small frame wouldn't be a good comparison either. Am I the only one who does this? I would really love to have more info, would anyone be willing to put that info out there for everyone? I, for one, would be very appreciative!

Height: 5'7"
Starting Weight: 307.9
Current Weight 179
Goal Weight: 145
Frame Size: Medium (that was shocking I really thought I was Large
Develop muscle easily?: Yes

Default Frame Size Information

If you're not sure of your frame size, these are the guidelines I found online:

Women:

Height under 5'2"
Small = wrist size less than 5.5"
Medium = wrist size 5.5" to 5.75"
Large = wrist size over 5.75"

Height 5'2" to 5' 5"
Small = wrist size less than 6"
Medium = wrist size 6" to 6.25"
Large = wrist size over 6.25"

Height over 5' 5"
Small = wrist size less than 6.25"
Medium = wrist size 6.25" to 6.5"
Large = wrist size over 6.5"

Men:

Height over 5' 5"
Small = wrist size 5.5" to 6.5"
Medium = wrist size 6.5" to 7.5"
Large = wrist size over 7.5"

You can see my height and stats. I would say I am small frame and although I have muscles and am toned, I am not muscular so I would say my weight would me too low for you. At 150, I was still a little too chunky for my taste. I think I am on the lower end of what I am comfortable with and I want to stay around 130.

Thumbs up

I am a small frame size for being 5'6...
I float around from 127-132 all month long.
I looked MY best at about 140 (IMO)
But my body likes it here and has for over one & 1/2 years.

My Dr also did not give me a goal but said 150 would be a good idea.

(Not super toned just there)

Thanks Dyann and Van - I appreciate your input. I'm thinking that 145 is probably a good goal for me, however I'm sure my body will tell me where its comfortable. Its just nice to have a number to work toward.

LoriAnn - I'm a total shrimp at 5'3" but I wanted to let you know that the last 20 pounds for me totally changed my size. It helped me to have goal clothes rather than numbers! I'm very musclular and one of those people that no one can believes weighs what I do . . . I have had a STRANGER say, what do you weigh 100? Find a cool pair of jeans on sale . . . that's a fun goal!!

Laurie,

You are quite the tiny little thing. I would love to have a goal size, but I really have NO idea what would be a good one to have. Right now I'm in a size 14, and will be going to a 12 in the next few weeks (the 14s are getting a bit big, but still wearable) I haven't been in a size smaller than a 14 since I was 15, so I truly have no clue what a goal size would be.

I have heard that the less you weigh, the more difference every pound makes. I'm having a hard time getting my head around the fact that I'll be wearing a 12 shortly, and will probably go smaller than that, but what would be a reasonable goal size? I can see me making it to 10, but will I go smaller than that? It seems like a dream to me. I would love to have a pair of awesome jeans hanging in my closet as a goal, but I don't want to get a size 6, and never be able to get in them, you know?

So... I guess the question is... at 5'7" weighing somewhere around 145 pounds, would an 8 be the right size as goal?

LoriAnn, in regards to a goal size what I can tell you is that I am 155 pounds, 5' 5.5" and I was able to zip up a size 8 the other day. I am a medium build without a lot of muscle BUT I still have a lot of skin in my panni area. I am comfortable in size 10-12 at this time so I would say a size 6 could be very realistic for you.

My doctor wouldn't give me a goal either. He did say he highly doubted that I would get below 155. I mean to prove him wrong. I set my own goal for 150 pounds but for a goal range I would say 140-150. When I was thin some 30 plus years ago that is the range my body seemed to want to be at.

I did find an "ideal body weight" calculator but it doesn't figure amount of muscle into the equation. I plugged in your info but figured a "large" frame instead of a medium one for the increased muscle that you have. The number I came up with is 148.5# for you, so according to that your goal weight sounds pretty much right on.

OK - you tall thing . . . . I got a pair of jeans for you!! I know I have some I wore with 4 inch heels . . . and they will be hitting your ankle bones . .. but PM me and I'll send you some fun and FREE goal jeans - if you don't make them - heck send them to someone else! Actually . .. I probably have long (or regular) length in 6, 8 and 10 . . . tell which ones you want in your closet and they are yours! I also have capris . .. I'll look and give you a choice. I have 4s that are too big for me too if that floats your boat.

When I got down to a 8, I thought WHOOO HOOOO . . . and I bought cute jeans from Old Navy and Liz Claiborne . . . I've only lost about 25 - 30 pounds since then (and had a tummy tuck) and now - I'm at least 3 sizes smaller . . . I never changed sizes so darn fast when I was heavier. At 145 - I was a size 6 . . . but I have no butt or thighs . . .

Eiiiii! This is fun!

Default PM headed your way...

I don't think that no butt or hips will ever be an issue for me... lol I definitley have the "curvy" figure. Though my butt is going away, my hips will always be there.

That sounds great, and I'll definitely take you up on it. I think I will definitely feel that way if I get to an 8. I mean, I don't think I've been in single digit sizing since... well I can't actually remember being in single digit sizes, so its probably middle school. YIKES! Thanks so much for your offer. I can't wait to have "goal jeans". It makes it feel like its right around the corner, you know?

Be looking for that PM, I'm going to send it now.
