Hi all
As some of you might have heard we are starting a mentor program. I am looking for GBS patients that are one year or more out who wish to become a mentor. We are asking mentors to make a 6-month commitment to his or her mentee. Your mentee may be pre op or a new post op.
As a mentor you may offer to do things like; go to the hospital to visit them, attend pre op and or post op support groups, be available by phone to answer non-medical questions, share personal experience and or just listen when they need a friend.
I know when I had my surgery I wouldn’t have made it through if I didn’t have my mentor. I called her weekly to ask food questions and talk about how I was feeling and how my family and friends were affecting my recovery. She was a godsend. There are people out there that have no one and some people that have support but no one that has had the surgery and gone through the same issues. As we all know there’s nothing like talking to someone that has been they’re done that.
