Default Summer Heat - Not Hungry

The summer heat showed up over the weekend. It was so hot on Sunday (105), I didn't want to eat. I did eat a good breakfast - egg and cheese omlet (1 egg and sliced babybel) and turkey hotdog. My mid morning snack consisted of a weightwatchers vanilla ice cream bar, and lunch I had a sf jello pudding cup. Dinner was a few bites of a philippine dish I love made with ground turkey.

Most of the day I just drank water and crystal lite. I know that's pretty bad with me being only 5 weeks out. The good thing is I didn't sweat like a stuck pig as I did last year. My only concern is, if this becomes "regular" through the summer.

We had surgery at the same time and I pretty much eating the same amount.
Yesterday I had:

a protein supplement
(1) poached egg and a few bites of melon for breakfast
1/2 a protein bar for lunch (I just couldn't eat anymore)
1/2 a sf lemon Italian ice for a snack
maybe 4 bites of a cheeseburger pattie (DH is the best griller!) and a teaspoon full of vegetarian baked bean for dinner
a lifesavers flavored sf Popsicle for dessert

water, water, water

I fell short in the protein department...only about 45gms, but I was on the go from about 9 am to 7pm and I just couldn't eat anymore. If I had been able to eat the whole protein bar, I would have been closer to 60 in the protein.

The good news is that I FINALLY started getting the "full" feeling and I am welcoming it with open arms. For the first 3 1/2 to 4 weeks I wasn't experiencing that and I thought my surgery was a failure. Yesterday I sat a brunch in a fabulous restaurant while everyone around me ate gorgeous desserts and I wasn't even tempted. My poached egg and melon had filled me to the brim.

You will have good days and then not so good eating days. Today for me, is mostly liquids, and its ok.....so if you don't feel like eating, make sure you get in your liquids and better yet, liquid protein.

For me this happens all the time - whether its stress, weather or just life.

Balance......its vital throughout your journey. Its my favorite word. It used to be "shit happens" but thats long gone now!

You are doing so great Pat and I am proud of you!

Default Me either

I cannot eat when Its hot Pat.. at all. Barely anything. This is how it has been for me for years. Funny thing though as I reflect; when it was hot I would eat, when I didnt feel good Id eat, when I was sad I would eat... oh how good it made me feel... but NOW..... anything like this detours me from eating... weirdest thing. I feel sick n stuff.

Hold on pal, be prepared for many more changes... this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Yep - in the heat you just don't want to eat because eating makes you feel slugglish sometimes, but the heat does it to you all the time. Hang in there, and try to maintain some sort of balance

Talking No appetite

Oh Baron you think 105 is hot? Here in the desert (Arizona) it is going to be 118 tomorrow. So here is my suggestion. Listen up because I am an expert on the heat. Just tuggin your leg a little. Seriously wait till it's almost dark and use the grill!!!! Grill a little extra chicken and make salads for lunch. Cant help ya with breakfast cause it always a whirl wide in my house. Good luck and find a pool!

Pat, you are eating more than I am able to eat most days. I like what Lisa said about liquids, and protein liquids. and balance. I make sure I have one protein drink (particularly my own concoction since I am so sick of the prepared on-the-shelf kind) when I just can't bring myself to eat. Imagine!! Not being able to bring myself to eat!!

And it is also true that some days are good eating days and some days aren't. It's part of the journey, and your journey is totally wonderful!

I hit 55 lbs lost today, my halfway point. I am so happy about that. I dreamed of this moment!! I am hoping for 5 more lbs by the time I go on my trip to Seattle on 7/26. I am going to increase my cardio workouts to 4 times a week to help speed the process. There is no question that I am losing faster now that I am doing cardio workouts.

Claire -

What is your concoction? I've not found a protein drink I can handle. I'm open to anything.

My manager suggested using tofu, fruit and milk to make smoothie's.
