Pat...welcome to Post op!!!

When I was drinking protein shakes I could tolorate it for about 2 weeks, tops! Then I had to do something else. It got to the point where I couldn't stand any flavor!! I had to add Unjury unflavored to cream soups, hot chocolate, pudding..whatever, just to get it in. I still drink Hot coco with it and dry milk when I need a boost.

Also, you can have Stallone Pudding...made by Instone. Chocolate is the least repulsive, and it packs 20gs of protein with no sugar. Just remember though, if your like me at all...your taste is going to be ok on things for short bursts only. Don't buy BULK anything...things change sooooo quickly!

Best of luck!!

Hi Patrick!

I went through the same thing - got so tired of all of those ready-made shakes and bars.

I have read Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies, and in it was a great idea. I blend my own protein shake -- not every day, but when I have no idea what else to eat, and I need the protein. It goes something like this

4 oz. skim milk
4 ice cubes made of skim milk
4 oz plain no fat yogurt (or maybe it's low fat)
a banana
some strawberry protein powder
pkg of splenda

I put it all in the blender, and I drink it over a period of about an hour.

It's good, not that heavy tasting stuff. Also, unjury has a wonderful chicken broth dry stuff. I mix that in with Campbell's chicken noodle soup, throw in some crackers, and I'm good to go. I get two meals out of that, for sure.

I find I am enjoying liquids more than I thought I would at this stage.

And the only protein bar I can stomach is the kind that is like a brownie. The others are too sweet for me (I'm amazed to say).

Have you tried the Target and Walmart brand sf drink mixes? I find Target's strawberry, banana, orange very tasty and my newest taste treat is Walmart Apple flavored mix and sucking on a sf Werther's hard candy at the same time...it's like having a caramel apple!

Default Isn't it too weird???

This whole change in taste thing is so amazing to me as well. Thanks for bringing this up Patrick. I read lots of posts about this subject pre-op. I knew it to be fact, but just never thought it would happen to me. After all, I LOVE food and the tastes of my favorites. What in the world could ever change how good that stuff tastes??

Well, I don't know the mechanics, the physics or whatever, but, it has happened to me as well. Most of my former favorites are just plain unappealing in thought. I have no desire to taste them. I am sooo thankful for this because it is all the stuff that filled me with those empty calories and piled on the weight. I was addicted to donut holes. I may have shared this in the past. I stopped at the grocery store several times a week after work. I'd ponder it all day-frosted, glazed, sugared, cinnamon? Or a combo pack? I couldn't wait to get there. I'd buy a dozen or two and start popping them in on my drive home. None left when I pulled in the driveway. I have not had a single one since surgery. The mere thought of a donut hole actually nauseates me. What is up with that? I don't know, but am thankful.

Same with the Hardee's hand scooped vanilla malts. On the days it wasn't donut holes, it was hand scooped malts. They knew me at the drive through. Probably recognized the sound of my car engine. Can't stomach the thought of one now. I was a real carnivore too. 16oz T-bones hid in fear when I entered a steakhouse. I could live vegetarian now, but eat some meat for the protein it packs. But very little. It's all a mystery, but I am thankful for these changes.

I never liked the taste of coffee, but am going to try one of those Starbucks coffees. So many of you say it's so good. What's a good thing to order? Any advice for a Starbucks virgin?

It is a wonderful life!
