Default Do I have a sign on me?

....that says WLS PATIENT???

......I know....one of you posted it on my back right? That's it!!! hehehe

I had the strangest jaw dropping experience today. I was sitting in the surgery waiting room at the hospital (my Mom had surgery...she's fine) and this lady acrossed from me was looking anxious and tired. I smiled at her and asked, "Long day?" She said it had been and then blurted out. "Did you have a gastric bypass too?" I tell you my mouth dropped and I was honestly looking for that sign one of you posted on my back. I asked her how in the world did she know? Did I have a sign on me? She said it was my arms...they look just like hers and she had a gastric bypass 4 years ago. ....so I guess my waving arms flagged her down. *L*

...she was waiting for her husband who was in the recovery room after having his RNY.

Just a strange happening in the surgery waiting room. Eeeesh...I really didn't think my arms looked THAT bad.

Default I am sorry

But I would never tell anyone anything about their arms....I would feel bad if I asked someone if they had wls and they said no. I just wouldn't ever ask anyone, but that is me.

I do like the flip side when I tell people I had gbs and they say "no way!" That is very uplifting. They say I would never have known and I always reply by saying they haven't seen me naked..LOL

Oh I was ok with her asking, Dale....but I'm with you I would never dare to just blurt something like that out to a stranger. I mean I know I have flapping arms but I've had so many people tell me that they look pretty darn good for having lost so much weight! I guess the trained eye knows, eh?

Oh well....I'll just be waving them with pride!

Default Weird Encounter

That is one strange story. I wouldn't have said what she said either. It takes all kinds.

I'm not brave enough to post any pictures, but I have the worst arms I've ever seen. But you know, I'm healthier than 82 pounds ago. And that's why I had this surgery. And I didn't like them any better before the weight loss.

The poor lady was probably a bit stressed out over her husband, or she wouldn't have said anything. I never would have thought of looking at arms and thinking that, though- until now! It probably made her feel better to have another success story in the room! The things we notice with our new perspective...
And my arms? Batwings are hereditary on my mothers side, and I imagine I will have the wings of a fruit bat when I hit goal. I doubt if I'll ever bother with PS on them too...

Beth, quite bold for her to ask...how can you possibly tell someone had GBP?

Having been in the hospital last week, I know there are GBP patients there and somewhat in seach of them, although I was limited. Never did find another panni or GBP patient in the few days I was able to walk the halls.

What I can notice though is someone who has lost a great deal of weight, whether through GBP or other means. Anyone who looses a great deal of weight has skin issues. That I notice.
