Default Coffee

Giving up coffee would have been a deal breaker. I would kill if someone took away my coffee. You will have to adjust what kind of coffee drinks and how you sweeten them. No more Carmel Frappacinos. I pretty much stick to brewed coffee with a little cream and splenda. An occasional SF latte is ok but thats about it for me.

Cool COFFEE, and ice blended coffee

Hi All,

Had to put my two cents worth in on the coffee. I grew up with parents that drank coffee black 24/7. My mom had to have a pot of coffee before she did anything, then she had another pot while she put on her makeup. I swore every single time they made me make a pot of coffee that I would never be hooked on it. I am not hooked, okay I am hooked, but not addicted and here is how I know. At home in Lancaster I seldom drink it unless my husband is here, he makes it for me. If it is really cold or I have to do something early I will make instant. I use alot of cream and splenda. If you are carbohydrate conscience you can use the heavy cream, its good. I use so much cream though that if there isn't powder cream my coffee is cold, thus my lust for ice blended mocha was born. When I am at home in San Diego with my husband, I usually drink it every day cuz John makes it so I drink it. Handed to me just the way I like it is quite tempting. LOL. I work 7 pm to 0730 am. I sleep until 4pm leave at 5pm and drive one hundred miles to work. I try to eat something on my way to work then the hour and a half drive takes up the no drink time. By the time I get to work I want to drink. There is a coffee bean cart in front of the hospital, and Roy the owner knows me very well. He says Hi Traci did you eat? I say no he gives me my large ice blended mocha with whip cream and chocolate, if I say I ate dinner he leaves off the whip cream and chocolate. I drink that drink all night long, and I never feel guilty of it. Ice blended mocha is just coffee with two cups of ice and a cup of milk blended in the blender. How much protein is in one cup of milk? Varies on fat free, vit d, or 2%, but usually 10 grams of protein in 8 ounces of milk. I get the 24 ounce that is a protein intake that I cannot and will not live without. I suppose when or if I gain weight I will have to leave off the whip cream and chocolate, but for now I think the drink has been what has kept me alive and been the bulk of my protein. Milk alone is my drink and I make sure I drink alot of it. I also put my milk or my own made coffee in the freezer. Ice blended drinks don't have to cost more in calories, but they add to the fulid volume of your day.

I only work three nights a week, so I consider those my lce blended days, but I will not hesitate to have another anytime.

Splenda is the best sweetner, I love it, never thought I would give up my equal.

I once read that someone didnt count their coffee as fluid, but I don't know why not. Fluid is fluid.

Hugs,

Traci

As with everything time and moderation. Me I'm a coffe fricking fiend. I understand the concern tho. After passing kidney stones twice at 4 and 6 months post op I think could do without the diuretic of caffine as a recent post-op.

Thumbs up Coffee is the new "black"...

It's always in fashion!

The only warning would be that it can dehydrate you so make sure you add an amount of water equal to the coffee you've drank on top of your daily water intake.

Exclamation Oh, one more thing...

I've found a replacement for that afternoon cup of joe that I used to consume regularly. It's called Smart Water and they sell it at Henry's, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods for about $1.50 for the large bottle (even some Ralph's sells it, but it's over $2 a bottle there.) It contains electrolytes and if I drink the 50 oz bottle throughout the afternoon I don't need a cup of coffee to keep awake through my shift, which ends at 10pm.

Just thought I'd share... B

I talked to Kelly at my 6 month check and she told me I can drink coffee EVERY day and I do!! I drink Sugar free Vanilla Nonfat lattes and have no problem with them. I couldn't stand the smell of coffee right after surgery, but that changed around 3 months out.

Today, I was in a funk of a mood and had a Coffee light frap that is made with non-fat milk and 1/2 sugar and 1/2 splenda with sugarfree vanilla syrup. It was such a treat and I did not dump. I know this is a treat and can't be on a daily basis, so I enjoy every sip.
