Default Question for a friend

A lady I teach with had this surgery 7 years ago. She lost 147 lbs in a year. However, she has gained at least 100 of them back. She said she's been inspired by my success so far with the surgery and asked me if my surgeon did revisions and if I thought they could do one on her. I told her she should call and ask because I wasn't sure. My question is - does anyone on here have experience with revisions or know anyone who lost alot but gained it all back and then wanted to lose again? Does she really need a revision, or could she just go back to following her pouch rules? I suggested that, but she said she thinks the pouch is too stretched out now. I told her about this forum and said I'd make a thread asking about it. Thanks in advance for any and all input.

Default my opinion....... for what it's worth

I think if she tried the pouch rules for a couple of weeks, she might be closer to knowing whether or not she needs a revision. Plus it would be extra ammunition for getting the surgery approved. JMHO, of course.

That said, many surgeons used a different part of the stomach to create the pouch seven years ago--they are now using part of the stomach that's less susceptible to stretching. She might also have just stretched her anastamosis, where the intestine and the pouch are hooked together, making it easier to eat more and faster. Lots of possible answers.

All of the surgeons I've contacted do revisions. I can't imagine a reason why a surgeon wouldn't, but who knows. That being said, if her pouch is OK and it's a problem with her anastomosis, there is a procedure that can be done with a scope to sclerose, or scar her opening to make it smaller again. Way easier than a second surgery if it's possible. Good luck to her.
