Question To have a belly button or not?

I have my abdomnioplasty in 4 weeks. I have always had issues with my belly button getting "smelly" and sometimes infected - pre and post op, although now its worse than before.

I have the option of having the belly button or not. At first I thought, I would look funny without it, but now that its infected again, I wonder why I really need it. Its not like I am a bikini wearer.

Just so you know I am having the anchor incision for my tummy surgery, thus a cut from the breastbone to the public bone and then hip to hip. So a scar will be in place of the belly button.

If I choose to keep it, the doctor cuts around the existing one, and puts it in the new place.

Ok...what ya think?

Hi! Personally if you have had a history or problems with it I would do without it, it serves no purpose anyway!!

Hey Lisa,

My Sister doesn't have a belly button (problem at birth)...and she wears bikini's and I never notice it missing! Go with your heart. You might want to wear a bikini some day and with a flat tummy you probably wouldn't have the issues anymore, but I don't think it really matters either way. Let us know what you decide!!

I think unless you plan on piercing it at some point, then go without it. Although after the plastics, it may not get infected any longer. One never knows.

Lisa, personally I would say to get rid of it. I know my plastic surgeon said that sometimes its more of a problem to try to keep it. Your circulation has to be good to the area and still you can have problems. He felt unless he felt really comfortable with keeping mine I would probably lose it. I personally don't have a problem with that. I trust his judgement and will leave it up to him to make the decision.

Lisa!

Let it go!

If I have a choice (which I will in the fairly near future) I'm getting rid of mind - just cause.

Besides, it'll mess with people's minds!

Be different!

Be bold!

I say no belly button.... just one less thing you have to wash in the shower. lol I'm not going to have one when I get a TT done. My nephew (he's 16 turning 17 in June) doesn't have one. He was born with his intestines on the outside of the body and when they did surgery, his surgeon said that they'd make more of a mess reconstructing one, so my sister and her hubby said not to bother. If you wanted to get your belly button pierced or anything like that, then keep the "button".... if not, let it go.

*hugs*

I love my new belly button that I got with my body lift. Then again I never had problems with my other one other than the fact that it wasn't seen with all the extra skin. I say if you don't want it don't get it. Either way your new flat tummy will be hot. You could always get a tat where the belly button would be!

I absolutely can't STAND anyone or anything to touch my belly button ~ I HATE the feeling! So I would get rid of it WILLINGLY!! Not to make light of your surgery ~ but it is kind of a funny thing to have to decide ~ I mean did you ever think you would be faces with such a choice?? With your history of infections ~ I would be done with it ~ you will have a very original, unique tummy!!
