Default What kind of scale do you use?

It's me again.

I have a bit of a problem. I HAVE a digital scale... but I am fairly certain it's not accurate (i.e. it's showing me as 15lbs lighter yesterday than I was at the doctor's office less than a week ago).

I was just wondering, what kind of scale did everyone use to monitor their weight loss pre and post op, or did you just wait until the doctor weighed you? And did you find the scale to be consistently accurate?

Sorry to be such a bother. :P Thanks!

Default Everybody's different

I think everyone does their own thing. For me, I use the same scale now that I did before the surgery. What I've decided, since every scale I weigh on weighs me differently, is that, while I may not be able to trust the actual weight, that I can trust the difference. My scale showed me at 303 pounds the morning I had the surgery. It now shows me at 138 pounds. While those numbers may not be exactly accurate, I believe that the 165 pound loss that it shows IS accurate. Make sense?

Whatever works for you - just don't stress yourself out on it. We really encourage people not to weigh themselves daily post-op. Monthly would be best, weekly is OK, but getting obsessed with that number on a daily basis means you're living life by that number, instead of getting on with the weight loss. It's not a straight line down, even so. My first post on this forum was because I gained a pound over the course of my fourth week out from surgery. Totally freaked me out. Now I know it's normal.

I'm with Lisa on this one. I don't care what ANYONE'S scale says but mine. I say put your trust into one scale and go with it. My scale read 329lbs. the morning of surgery and now it reads 189lbs...and it doesn't like to move down as fast as it used to.

Default Testing your home scale

If you like to use your home scale in between the doctors office visits, take a 5lb. un-openned bag of flour or (gasp) sugar. Place it on the scale and adjust as needed. Personally, I rely on my surgeons scale and how my clothes feel.

mine is digital and it has been with me pre and post op. It is right on with my docs scales.

It is made by Taylor and says Superbrite near the screen. I have had it for probably 4 years.

I initially used the one at work only. I have since bought a weight watchers digital scale and keep it in my kitchen. Its decimal and keeps me on track daily.

I had an expensive digitial scale and I could get on and off three times with three different reads. I got sick of it and I bought a good doctor's scale which is accurate to 1/8 of a pound and reproducible. That is the scale I go by.

I still have to get weighed on a truck scale I'm ashamed to say, but hopefully someday I'll get to try the ones that most humans use.
