Do I have an addiction???
I think I have developed an addiction. Drugs...nah. Alcohol...nope scared to try. Porn....nope.
I have developed an addiction to coffee. I will literally drink it all day long. I even travel w/ a huge samsonite thermos (or two) and fill them up at QT (better than starbucks by far). Anyways last night as I am on my way to church, I literally almost had a panic attack trying to make sure I got there in time to slide in and get a cup of coffee before church started. I literally was weaving in and out of traffic and resisting the urge to flip people off and honk..terrible I know.
So does this sound like an addiction????? Has anyone else developed a new addiction to fill the spot of food?

People magazine featured this a couple of weeks ago. The article was about addiction transfer specifically in post-GBP people and it was good and informative, but a bit irksome that the title actually said something about the surgery CAUSING drug and alcohol abuse. Please.
But anyway, caffeine can be addictive for sure!

I read that pre op that it is very common to switch addictions from food, to alcohol (very common) some casual drug use, shopping and even sex. I am thinking the shopping and sex come from not having much opportunity to buy cute clothes or get a good lay while being MO.

"Addiction is a chronic or recurrent condition proposed to be precipitated by one or more of the following: genetic, biological/pharmacological and social factors. Addiction is characterized by the compulsive use of substances or engagement of behaviors despite clear evidence to the user of consequent morbidity and/or other harmful effects." This excerpt provided by Wikipedia.
It is an ADDICTION when it shows the compulsive use of {insert possible addiction here} causes the user harmful effects or possible morbidity. If coffee isn't doing this to you, then NO. If it is, then Yes. What do you think? What it comes down to, do YOU think you have a problem, or do you just think your substituting? Your the only one that can truly answer your question.[/size]

So will I....Not that I plan to, but coffee just sounds so much better than food.

I went through a phase of about a month drinking coffee all day long. I got my wife hooked too! Then for some reason I just lost interest. The problem is now I have been sipping more on my wifes cokes. I still do good with water though.....on most days.

Oh my gosh! This is me! I am totally addicted to coffee. I know mine comes from not being able to eat solid foods though. I get my protein in with powdered milk in coffe and it fills me up. So, when I feel hungry or want something, I drink coffee. I will freak out too if I can't have at least 4 or 5 16 oz cups a day!!!!! It's my lifeline. I have posted about this before also. I feel I have replaced my food addiction with coffee. Eating is too much of a choir and so uncomfortable.

I am the same way with iced coffee. I don't think it is an addiction, I think it is a crutch. We feel safe with coffee and if we don't have it, we fear what else we may put in our mouths!!!
