I went on a cruise about 14 months after my surgery and I actually lost weight on the cruise. They had a workout room, and exercise classes and a walking track on the top deck of the ship, and I took advantage of all three. I took the stairs everywhere we went, I did not take the elevators at all. At that point I was determined to do well and follow all of the pouch rules. I am not sure how well I would fare today, being 2 1/2 years out. I actually have alot more hunger to deal with these days. I am, sure that you will do fine.

Yup, I went on a cruise at 8 months post op. My eyes were bigger than my pouch, so I tasted a lot of things...but still kept to my minimal amount of food. In fact watching all the others eating made me ill.

Being so soon out of surgery, it might be a little more tough.....pack protein powder with you and some of the protein foods that you tolerate. I took senokot and milk of magnesia to help with constipation.

Have a WONDERFUL time.

Default No Waaaaaay!!!

Penny J...

Taleci and I will be on that cruise TOO!!! We are taking my dad and stepmom on a cruise for their 25th anniversary! We should walk together! AWESOME, I can't wait for this cruise, taleci and I work like maniacs so this cruise is much needed.

This will be our second cruise post OP and we had no problems. It can be overwhelming with all of the food around but there are GB friendly foods available. Actually there is quite an assortment of foods available 247 which works out great for me as I eat about 7 meals a day.

Really??? WOW!! Carnival Conquest - 2/17?? How cool, we should try and meet!! We're going with my sister and brother in law...first time cruising with them, but we've been on a couple others. I love cruising...but this will be the first post op, so with out the "food gorge"...should be a new experience!

Default What a small world!

I would love to meet other people from this board while we are on-board.

PennyJ and SirMikey....we should plan a place to meet. We will be with DH's dad and step-mom and this will be their first cruise. They are also celebrating 25 years of marriage. We can't wait!

This will be our second cruise post op. On the first one, it was really helpful to have power bars and nuts on-hand in our cabin. Otherwise, eating was actually easier than normal since things like seafood, eggs, salad bar, and cheese are so readily available. It was just for those in-between meals that the added protein of the snacks I brought were appreciated. Also, Carnival has a great selection of sugar free desserts and ice cream that are really, really good. So even if you can only eat a bite, you'll feel like you splurged in a good way. Also, it is so easy to fit in exercise on the boat. I take the stairs as much as possible, we dance and try to be active on excursions.

We are soooooo in need of a vacation and some warm weather since I am always cold these days.

Hi, I'm still pre-op, but I've been on a few cruises.

The buffet will have TONS of choices available. I've only been on Royal Caribbean cruise, not Carnival, but there should be an omelette station at the buffet in the morning. They will cook you an omelette to order, or fresh scrambled eggs (I hate the ones on the bar), fried eggs, or Egg Beaters.

If you plan on eating in the dining room, I'd make it a point to see the maitre de (spelling?) on the first day. Explain that you have special dietary needs, and that you may have some unusual requests during the cruise. He/she will probably ask you a few questions, and will make a note of the situation. Even though the dining room waiters/waitresses tend to be excellent, this really will make a big difference in your level of service should you require anything different than the standard menu items. On my last cruise, one of my tablemates had some type of stomach problem and this is what she had done. On many occasions the waiter would bring her food that wasn't even on the menu that night. And the maitre de came around almost every night to make sure everything was okay for her.

All of the ships I've been on have great fitness centers, and there are lots of exercise classes as well...just check your daily schedule.

Have a great time! Can I stowaway in your suitcase?
