how long were you out of work after surgery?
I have this feeling all will go swimmingly and I will get back soon, I am overall pretty healthy and "expecting" little to no complications......that being said, just wondered how much time I should be taking off work (I know everyone is different!)!
I have a good tolerance for pain, was up and around the day after my c-section (despite an infection and all)...so if you can shed some light on how it was for you, I appreciate it.
I keep hearing I should get up and around the night of surgery, get things moving, I don't want 2 nights in the hosp.
Share with me!!
Have a good day!

Up and around
As soon as I was awake enough to keep my eyes open I got up. My mom was there, I looked at her and said "Help me up" the nurse said "You might want to wait" I wasn't waiting. I only made it about 3 feet from the bed. But I was up and moving! I had/have some back problems (hmmm, over 300 pounds, back problems, who knew?) and I knew if I laid there too long, my back would go out. I didn't want that!
I was back at work 10 days after surgery, just 1/2 days for about a week. But like you said, everyone is different, and you can't push yourself, you have to let your body heal.

I was up walking about 4 hours after I got to my room, after my surgery and was home 24 hours after surgery. I was allowed to go back to work after my 2 week post-op check but decided to take 4 weeks off from work. I am an RN and felt I just needed the extra time since I work long shifts on my feet and do a lot of lifting of patients. I'm glad I took the extra time. I wasn't in a lot of pain but my stamina just wasn't there after only 2 weeks.

I was up and walking within hours of my surgery and felt fantastic the next day. But at midnight started vomiting TONS of green bile...this lasted until 7pm that night and my Dr took me back into surgery to see what was causing it. Turns out some of my intestines were twisted. Anyway, I don't know if it was having 2 surgeries in 48 hours or what, but it's been 4 weeks now and I'm just starting to feel like my old self. I went to the Dr yesterday for my 1 month check up and to have my last drain removed and when he looked at the site where my Gtube was he said I have an infection and would need 2 more weeks off of work. I teach, and my first 2 weeks were Spring break. I was hoping to go back to work after that, but with the complication & 2nd surgery it was going to be 4 weeks....and now with the infection at the drain site it will be 6 weeks. It all just depends on your individual situation.

Seems like it really depends on the person. My friend is a hairdresser and only took 2 weeks off. She said she was tired at the end of the day for the first couple of weeks but felt fine. I guess it depends on how you do and what type of job you have.

It took 3 months for me to feel wonderful....back to work half days after 2 weeks and full time after 3....I just didn't feel all that great. Don't exspect to feel 100% for a while and if you do, bonus! But I tell you what, I feel better now than I remember feeling for 25yrs or so......what ever you have to go through...it is worth it.

I think you could do light work after 2 weeks, but I still needed afternoon naps until about a month.

I took three weeks. I had only planned two, but I had dehydration and energy level issues I couldn't overcome. Now I'm much better and will be back at work on Monday.
