Life Insurance Denial
Hi all. I hope you are all doing GREAT and shrinking as I type!
The other day my hubby an I were talking about getting additional life insurance so I called around for some quotes and all the companies I spoke with denied me coverage due to my Gastric Bypass! Apparently there is a provision of a 5 yar wait from surgery date before I can get coverage!
How crappy is that!
I am now off ALL meds for hypertension, no longer Super Morbidly Obese and have no complications or health problems and I can't get life insurance.
I just needed to vent and you guys are so good at listening. Anyone has any sugestions or companies to recommend, please let me know.

They do this as well with health insurance. If you are trying to sign up for an health insurance that isn't related to your job, you could be denied coverage. I don't have any suggestions but keep doing your research. Hopefully you will find an insuranc company that has some good scence.
BTW congrat on getting rid of all your meds. What a great feeling that is, I'm sure.

funny
The funny this is I was denied life insurance through my job because I was obese...so I do something about it and I am still denied life insurance. Go figure. It's a no win situation.

Yep, I guess just the way of the world today. I have life ins. through my employer, just hoping to beef it up a bit. Just so frustrating dealing with these big companies and their insane rules. Thanks for letting me vent and as usual see I am not alone.

We have extra insurance through AIL, everything went through no problem and then I got a phonecall from the agent ( a fellow biker) who was extremely embarrassed to tell me that they would insure me but not for as much money and that we would have to pay an extra amount due to my weight. I was pretty pissed as I am healthy and active and was mad that the company would judge me! Anyway we ended up paying it so we have coverage but I am looking forward to calling them post op! I hate insurance companies!!

Insurance woes
Hello!
I was denied health insurance because of my weight in the past, but eventually got it. I recently decided to take out extra life insurance and applied through two agencies. One denied me because of my weight, but the other accepted me. I had not even thought about the implications of the WLS on life insurance. I am glad I got it when I did!
Thanks for the information!

i hear ya, my monthly life insurance plan is 35 bucks more because of my pre-op weight, when i called my agent, he said, i have to maintain or be below my normal weight of 140lbs for six months then i can apply to have the rate reduced, by answering the medical part all over again and having the health nurse do the weight and blood work and all, so looking forward to that!

Unions can sometimes do better
If you are a union member or have a professional association that you belong to, sometimes they have no medical thing...
I keep applying for disability insurance and being denied due to my weight. I hope that if I apply when I'm "overweight" that they'll accept me! If anything ever keeps me from working, my family will lose everything!

I know NY life has a one year exclusion and 3 year "high risk" quote and after three years you petition and give a rate reduction back to your current state of health and age.

I am anxious to hear what everyone else finds out. My fiance is going to be peeved when he goes to do life insurance here in a few months. He'll be giving them what for!
