Default saggy, hangy skin

Does anyone know if you lost weight by exercising, and at a slower rate would you still have all that skin? Also if you are younger does that make a difference?

Being younger and working out while you lose the weight with WLS does help out to a point. I do know that my lose skin is getting better but I do still have some lose skin. I can tell you I have a friend who lost 100lbs over about a year time frame from cutting food and working out. He does have lose skin as well of course he doesn't have much. The only place that you can even notice it is his stomach and a little on the arms. I hope this helps.

Arrow It Does Matter

Jennifer:

Your age and weight history make a big difference in your saggy skin. If you haven't already obliterated your skin with childbirth and extreme weight gain/losses causing stretch marks, you will probably have less saggy skin. Also, as you age, your skin tends to bounce back less. If you have stretch marks, those don't really go away--the color just fades. The skin is actually broken and it's not going back together, per se.

The skin where I have stretch marks from childbirth is never going to tighten up. The only alternative I have is surgery in those areas. However, I'm 48. I'm old!

Skin type also make a big difference, I am very fair and have been up and down my whole life (as much as 100 lbs each time). My skin always bounced back and I never had stretch marks per se'. My skin has been drying out as I am getting older though, and I wonder if that is going to make a big difference on it going back to normal. I am not expecting any miracles, so this time I am prepared if my skin does not bounce back. We shall see. So far it doesnt look good. My arms are sagging farther than I can ever remember. I do remember though that it takes about a year to fully see how far the skin will rejuvinate. So I have plenty of time to see~

Loose skin is a matter of fact with these huge weight losses. I lost 75 lbs in 2003 using optifast and yes had the wings and flappy legs. I have always had a belly. Even when younger (25 years ago) the large weight loss of 130 lbs left me with the mass of skin. That was with exercise every day. I am pre-op and just pray every day now to get all my tests submitted and go to dictation. I would love to have skin to stuff into my clothes and not all this mass.

Good luck to you.

Right on Koren! I have skin.... the stuff that made me very uncomfortable, get sores, rashes, etc I had taken off (at 9 months post op) but at that time and 31 years of age, I had alot of it! It was pretty nasty and my pannus hung down to my lil lady area! The arms though I am giong to wait and see how those "snap back" if at all, if they dont I think its something I can live with... now the booty part, thats another story. I have noticed since having my tummy tuck there has been less discomfort in my low back as well... so I will see how things go after a year, and if the butt is still nasty and causing problems... Im gonna work on that. But im with Koren, having the skin to stuff rather than the mass is so much better. Not having to wear a shirt that "hides" the mass is AWESOME!
Jennifer, I have been heavy ALL my life, I dont expect things to snap back naturally... but I dont work out either. So I cant really complain because other than Barbara's coffee scrub, I havent done anything to try to "tighten" the skin. Best wishes sugar pea!

Heck..at my 6week check up, the dr didnt even say I could drive!!! never mind exersize And I agree, I cant wait to tuck in everything than to waddle next to my hubby

Did you have your surgery lap or open? Was your surgeon Dr Callery or Dr Potts?
