Medical question
Before everyone says it, Yes I called my PCP and my surgeon, can't really get a straight answer out of either one of them.
I am a little over 8 months out. The surgeon gave me Previcid for my ulcer. Now it says to let them disolve on your tongue. This makes me gag and then throw up for a while. Really gross. So I was reading the directions and you can use an oral sryinge and disolve the pill in 10 ml of water. So my question is can't I just swallow the pill with the 10 ml of water? I have tried disolving it, I get the same gag reflex. Any suggestions?

Ask your pharmacist. Sometimes 24hr or extended release drugs are not ment to be taken like that. Dr.s don't always understand these things. Best to ask someone who does. Good luck figureing it out!

Isn't prevacid a capsule? I was put on medication for an ulcer (forgot the name) .. it didn't work. But my understanding is that Prevacid is a med for acid suppression. I am not sure if it's used to treat stomach ulcers, and yes call pharmacist. Doctors are too busy to keep track of all your meds, and what will cause problems, and Pharmacist knows. Janie

Prevacid
My Dr gave me Prevacid "oral suspension". It came in a packet to be disolved in water. It didn't taste too bad.
Good Luck

Zantac
I had been on 600 mg of Zantac since the day after surgery, 2 300mg pills a day. I still got the ulcer! Man my life stinks somedays My surgeon said the Zantac slowed the acid and the Previcid stopped it, I don't know if that is right or not, but that is what she told me. I have to admit, the pain went has gotten better, and I am eating better with the previcid.

There are other antiacids in that class (proton pump inhibitors) like prilosec etc..that can be swallowed.
