Let's talk about skin, bay-bee
...Let's talk about gettin' flop-py...
ANYWAY. Apparently the coffee's kicking in this morning!
Obviously the amount of skin left hanging after the weight loss depends on a variety of factors... age, general skin tone and elasticity, how overweight one was to start with, etc. So let's talk in real terms--how bad is it? I have a friend who lost 140 lbs and says when she lays down, her skin lays down beside her. Others debate whether or not to even have p.s. at all.
I expect to lose just about 100# have a little looseness around the tummy, floppy arms, and the thighs and butt scare me, but I don't want to HAVE to have p.s. for cosmetic reasons. I'll have the surgery anyway, that won't keep me from it! I'm just trying to get an idea how bad it might be, and I'm sure other pre-oppers wonder the same thing. Does it get in the way, does it whip around you like a poncho when you move, etc?
So if you don't mind, will those of you who are at or near goal please list:
a. Your height
b. Your beginning and current weight
c. Your skin type (ie. mine's fair, caucasian, and I got MAJOR stretch marks with pregnancy)
d. What you had left hanging when you got to (or near) goal.
Thank you!!

Hey Stacy, I was 30 years old whId WLS, I was 300 pounds and now I am 160-165. I have the same skin type as you do. I had alot of skin around my thighs and pannus, but I had it pre WLS too. I attached a pic that isnt the greatest, but hope you can see it. I have also been heavy all of my life and MO since junior high. Dont worry too much about the what if..... you have just as much chance of having great results as you do of having those you arent happy with... and always remember, things could be worse, you are your own worst critic!
I still have lots of skin around my back and butt that I am considering removing. when I roll over, somethimes I roll onto it, and it pinches. When I lay on my side, it folds over in places. I just dont know if I want to do it, at risk more post operative numbness... time will tell.

a.) 5'10"
b.) Beginning weight = 297 Current Weight = 170
c.) Fricken Irish! Very white and fair, had stretch marks on tummy
d.) Mostly everything has bounced back. My stomach and butt are the only problems. My butt is ok, just right at the bottom of my cheek I notice some sagginess. The stomach is the worst though. It all seems like it comes together weird at my belly button. (sagginess and fat).
E.) Im 25.

I have my panni booked for June 4. I took pics the other night of my hanging skin. I would say that from those pics I have seen of others, I am rated a 1 or 2 out of 5. Here they rate the panni skin from 1-5. 1 being over the pubic line (minimum requirement) to a 5, where the skin hangs at the knee level.
a. Your height - 5'9
b. Your beginning and current weight 314, currently 170
c. Your skin type - caucasion, stretch marks from being overweight and having 1 child
d. What you had left hanging when you got to (or near) goal. Hanging skin over the pubic area, soft skin, ripples of skin and I still have fat under or part of the skin...some people have just skin, others fat and skin.
(Carrie....ok fixed the PUBLIC area for PUBIC area...better than a PUBIC Swim Eh!)

My Case~
a. Your height
b. Your beginning and current weight
c. Your skin type (ie. mine's fair, caucasian, and I got MAJOR stretch marks with pregnancy)
d. What you had left hanging when you got to (or near) goal.
I am 5'6,I began @ 275ish...I am now 127-132..(I float around and have for over a year now)
I have a fair/medium ,I tan very well.I have major stretchmarks from a 10.3.lb baby boy 10 years ago.
My breast bother me the most.I refer to them as my "skin bags".My stomach is not bad but if I had the money I would have what panni I have removed.
My upper thighs are little wrinkely but not bad at all.I have zero back fat/rolls..can't even pinch an inch.
I will post some pics that may help you see my skin results,
V

Ok here is my info. It isn't pretty....
a) Height 5' 5.5"
b) Starting weight 355 lbs. Present weight 173 lbs. I'm about 15-20 lbs from goal. I'm still not totally sure where I want to be but I'm figuring 150-160 is where my body is going to want to go.
c) caucasion, stretch marks from being overweight since a child and having 3 children. I'm also 50 years old.
d) I have major hanging skin issues. My pannus hangs below my pubic area. It consists of skin and some fat under the skin. Without the fat it would probably hang even lower. It is starting to cause me some medical problems. I have a constant "pull" on my lower back and lately I feel like it is throwing things off when it comes to my right knee and hip. I've been having increased knee pain. It was getting so much better after surgery but now it is getting worse. I am presently 14 months post-op. I also have major folds when it comes to my thighs and the backside is really shifting downward. My arms are not too bad but the breasts hang to the bottom of the ribcage. My waistline looks the best. The areas where I see the biggests problems are where I always carried my most weight; thighs, buttocks, lower abdomen and breasts.
For me, I'm feeling ps will be a must. My only question now is how soon and what will my insurance cover. They have been known to cover a breast lift and pannilectomy. Its been on my mind a lot that's all I can say. I've even been dreaming about it lately. *L*
Well don't let my issues scare you away. I'm older and have lost a lot more weight, so those factors are all playing in to it.
