Thumbs up 6 months

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know how my six month follow up appointment went. First of all, I can't believe I'm already six months out. I guess being in-and-out of the hospital every month since the surgery makes it seem like it wasn't that long ago.

I will start with the good news. I finally joined the Century Club! I swear, these last couple of pounds were holding on to me for dear life! I worked out to the point that I threw up one time(I wasn't feeling well all day but I refused to miss a work out). When I got on their scale and it said 169, well, it felt weird seeing that number. Six months ago I got on that same scale and it said 269 and I still had a whole stomach, "genuine plumbing", and no scars in my stomach. 169 just seems like such a low number(OMG, I'm choking up and crying while writing this, WTH!), I, NOW, weight less than my dad and I'm 9 pounds heavier than my mom. One of the fellow-people(are they doctors yet? I don't really know...) that saw me for the appointment today said my weight loss was excellent but to tell ya'll the honest truth...I feel like if I hadn't had any of the complications I had since surgery I would've probably hit goal by now. I mean, I would've joined the gym sooner, I would've frequented it more, I would be eating better and I believe that would've helped me reach my goal by now but you know what? I have lost 100 POUNDS!! I AM UNDER 200 POUNDS AND I AM NEVER-EVER-EVER-EVER-EVER-EVER GOING TO GO ABOVE THAT NUMBER EVER!

Now on to poo-poo news...since I still can't do solids without it bothering me tremendously/hurting(it does go down though so I know it's not a stricture!) and I'm nauseous 24/7 and I still have chronic diarreah, he reffered me to a GI doctor within the same clinic so that she can run some tests and see what's up. One of the things they said I might have to do is an endoscopy. I've never had one done and I have heard that they don't really "put you under", they just sedate you but you're still "awake" and there's a chance you will remember the procedure...please tell me I was lied to lol. Because if that's the case I'm not even going to go to the doctor there, I'm not having it done!! They also think that for some reason I'm not absorbing my vitamins because I'm showing classic symptoms of vitamin defficiency. My legs are numb and I feel painful needle-like sensations sometimes along with muscle cramps and I'm very forgetful lately. I also have other aches and pains but I don't feel like raining on my own parade anymore...

Things have definitely changed since the surgery. I have now gone back to school. I'm going to Keiser, getting my associate of science in Medical Assisting. I wouldn't have done this before, I mean, I am so much more outgoing and social. All-in-all, I'm just much more comfortable with myself. I can speak up and go up to people and not feel like I'm going to be judged or made fun of. I make eye contact all the time now and when people look at me instead of looking down or away I just smile and greet them. I'm starting to really love life right now, I'm just hoping that my health progresses alongside the weightloss so I can feel 100% great. It would be a shame for something to happen to me now that I actually like myself and I'm starting to for once be..."happy"...

Wow Jess 100 pounds gone. You go girl. I think that is great. Don't second guess or wonder if this hadn't happen then i would be here or there. Take it for what it is worth. Apparently it is worth a lot because you are a century loser and you are in Onderland. Your beautiful. Stay on top of working out. Exercise is the key to getting and keeping the weight off. I wish you continued success and good luck with your medical studies.

Don't seat the endoscopy - I have had several over the years. I was sedated pretty good but sort of aware of what was happening - in fact I rember watching the action on the doc's monitor. BUT there was no pain or discomfort involved. You will do fine.

Default Endo

Jess, with everything you have been through a little endoscopy will be nothing for you! I don't know about all places, but the place I went to have mine told me the same things. Then when I got there, they told me they were putting me in 'Twilight Sleep' which is not sedated, technically you are still awake. My mother was with me, she said if I was awake, I was doing a heck of a job pretending to be asleep. I guess I was drooling and snoring and everything The worst part for me was, every time something like this happens people feel the need to share the dumb things I do! After surgery my surgeon and the nurse got the bigest kick out of telling my mom I was trying to pick the surgery techs! This time they were laughing about me drooling, and I did try and pick up the one tech again. Maybe I need a man

You should be so proud of yourself for everything you have accomplished. You need to go see this other doctor, and you know you do. So just take a towel (to pick up the drool) and some lip gloss (to pick up the tech ) and go for it!

Jess congrats on making century club. You have done awesome with your weight loss.

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better. You still need to do what you have to to get you feeling better. Don't let a procedure pass if it could help you in the end.

Hang in there girl!!!!!
