Default OT - What to do with your parents

Ok, so here is the 'thing'. Aren't parents supposed to be the responsible ones?? I love my parents but sometimes you just have to wonder about them. My dad is 64, my mom is 60. Dad's 'hobby' is exhibition poultry (like raising show dogs, but only chickens) So a few weeks ago they were talking about driving to the state of Washington (we live in PA) for a chicken show. I said "Do you really think spring is the time to drive across the plains and the rockies?" Dad's response was "We will be ok, I'm taking the truck and I have 4 wheel drive" With all the nasty weather over there yesterday I have been trying to get them on their cell phone to make sure they are ok. Well I finally go them on the phone....

Are you guys ready for this?? Everyone sitting down??

Me: Dad, just wanted to make sure you guys were ok
Dad: Oh yeah, we are ok, but reception is very bad here, call your brother and tell him we are ok, he was trying to call too
Me: Where are you?
Dad: Same place we have been since 10pm last night, sitting alone Route 90, they closed the road, but don't worry we have plenty of gas and your mother packed the cooler

Can anyone else say "I told you so"!!!!!

Before my mother passed away LOL I had them trained (hehehehehe) at least they would call...well MOST of the time...YOU know they kill me they don't think that we should WORRY!
If yours are like mine they are STUBBORN! So good luck...sometimes I would put the quilt trip on them and USE the grandchildren CARD!

Good luck!

Default Call

Leesa, they do call, usually, but where they are stuck in the Rockies, getting a signal is hard. It's ok though, we know where they are.

I tried the guilt thing, it didn't work with them

I tried the grandchildren thing, but mom doesn't like it when I call Baxter her 'grandson' She says grandchildren have 2 legs not 4 (Baxter is my dog)

Me to. You should be happy that they are active and want to do things than just sit around. My parents leave all the time and my Dad has a TON of meidcal problems, but I have to let him go because I know it makes him happy. At least there are OK, and now you can sit back and smile and say HAHA I told you so!
