[quote=bloomer001]You know the worst part Leesa??? All this for a chicken show!! A chicken show I say. They raise chickens by a standard, just like dogs, then all gather together and put them in pens and look at them. It's a CHICKEN!! I told Mom the next time he wanted to see chickens, take him to the grocery store.

Oh that's just wrong....lol Your parents sound so cool, but I know what you are going through with not know how they are. The funny thing is if we (kids) did that to them MAN the workd would come to an end. They think it's funny when they do stupid stuff! PARENTS!

Default Update!

Mom just called to 'check in'. They are still stuck in Buffalo WY. Dad thought he would be 'nice' and took her to breakfast at the truckstop So they got out of the truck and walked over to the truckstop. She said the roads in the town are pretty clear and they were going to drive down to the other end of town (about a mile) to the grocery store to stock up. The state trooper told them that Route 90 going south has not even been touched yet, and the are still getting people down off the mountain.

The good news is, they haven't killed each other yet , Dad got the owners manual out and learned how to use the radio, Mom said he even bought 2 CD's at the truckstop and learned how to put them in, sadly he didn't check to see what they were and one of them was a rap CD. So picture this, a truckstop full of stranded people, 2 'older' farmers in a F-350 truck with chickens in the back, and all of a sudden rap music coming out of the truck! God bless 'em, they are having the time of their lives!

Not only is everyone here great, but this has nothing to do with surgery and if I didn't have you guys to tell about it, I would be sitting here laughing with myself.

What a great adventure your parents have been on. Glad they are okay.

Remember the trouble we would get in when we were kids for doing crazy things. Guess the roles reverse now as we get older. Now we worry about them. Go figure!!!!!

Default Update! Leesa asked, so here it is

Talked to Mom this morning, they opened Route 90 at about 6am this morning. So they could leave Buffalo, WY. They have decided not to go onto Elma, WA for the chicken show, they have started home. When I talked to her this morning, it was sort of cute, you could everyone in the truckstop having breakfast and saying goodbye to the people they had spent the last 2 days with, Mom said 2 of the 'kids' that have been helping Dad feed the chickens were sitting with them for breakfast this morning. Dad gave them 2 of the baby ducks he had with him, yes he asked their parents first, they live on a little farm about 100 miles from where they were, but couldn't get home either.

So let's quickly review the timeline here. Monday about midnight, leave Pittsburgh, PA for Elma, WA with a truckload of chickens for a chicken show. Daughter says "I don't think driving through the Rockies in the spring is a good idea". Parents say "It's ok,we have a truck with 4 wheel drive". Daughts just shakes her head. Wednesday evening, parents stop for gas (at least they were smart enough to keep the truck full of gas) Trucker tells Dad that Route 90 is closed up ahead. Dad gets out map, finds side road to bypass major route that is closed! Wednesday night, parents stuck in mountain pass becuase of earlier decision. Thursday morning parents rescued from pass by snow plow, state trooper, and search and rescue. Taken to small town of Buffalo, WY to wait out storm. Dad leans to use radio, but buys rap CD by mistake, and without complete volume control because he hasn't gotten that far in book yet, blasts rap music from truck with 2 old farmers and a load of chicken in it, at a truckstop full of other stranded people. Parents spend from Wednesday night until Saturday morning in truck becuase of ealier decision Saturday morning at about 6am local time, parents leave Bufflao, WY for home, never making it to chicken show, and I'm sure going stir crazy from all the time in the truck.

Oh and Dad helped the kids make a snowman yesterday, mom said she got picutres, I can't wait to see them!

You know if that was me, he would be on the phone screaming at me for doing something so dumb while he was driving there to pick me up.

And again, Daughter just shake her head and laughs! If it ain't one thing it's another around here! But at least it's never boring or dull

What a fabulous story. I read every thread and can't wait to keep reading!

My parentss are like yours. 70 and 77 years old. Still driving, flying, motorhoming, what ever!!

Right after 9-11 they flew to Europe!!

Most of their friends are younger then they are and can not do half of what my parents can do!

Yes, I worry, but like my mom reminds me, they are adults and if something happens it will be while doing something they love doing.

On the other hand, my husbands parents, just stayed at home, watched t.v., faught with each other all the time, became depressed and ill and eventually his dad died. Now his mom is home alone doing prettty much the same. very sad...she won't even get on a plane to come see us.

So, I gotta say, I'd rather have parents who live their life with gusto, than just sitting around waiting to expire!! Sounds like you do also!

I always remember when I was a kid and as much as I made my parents worry, they still allowed me to live my life and have my adventures...they guided me as much as they could but the rest was up to me....thanks mom and dad...its time for me to pay it forward!!
