Default When asked "do you have diabetes"

I went for a massage the other day and on the questionnaire that I filled out was the question, Do you have diabetes? I did have it before GBS and ever since I haven't had levels over 95 and I don't take any meds for it. So the question is what do you say? assuming you had it before and now don't have any symptoms.

I've wondered the same thing. According to my pcp, he says I do have Diabetes but it is diet controlled. So, that is how I answer.

Hmmmm.....I don't know about that. Maybe the foods you ate pre op induced the high sugar and you actually have normal glycemic control now and no more peripheral insulin resistance. I bet if you ate sugar now, your blood level wouldn't go over normal levels.

Very interesting question.

I do eat sugar now and my levels don't go up. So I would say mine isn't diet controlled, its just no more.

Man I need to get a massage. I think I could actually do it now. I wonder what the purpose is in asking that question for a massage? Do people with diabetes have sensitive extremeties?

My wl doc and pcp both told me my diabetes would be gone after wls and I would come home off my med's...so I would answer the question as a NO.

Good luck

I would equate it to someone who had gestational diabetes (diabetes with pregnancy)....after the pregnancy they are not diabetic. They may have a higher chance down the road and in a different risk group, but they are not labeled diet controlled. Their inciting factor, be it pregnancy or obesity, is gone.

Can type 2 be transient? I mean they are finding out new stuff about the effective the elevated insulin and glucose levels effecting all kinds of things, heart realted issues, reproductive and thyroid. Do you think they can determine if the diagnosis can be accute rather than cronic? Wonder?????
