Medication-How does it make you feel?
So I finally got my PCP to switch me from Ambien (which I was totally over using) to Trazadone. I was wondering, does anyone else besides me feel the effects of most medications within minutes of taking them? Almost everything I take except my vitamins makes me feel drunk or high or dizzy or just plain sick. When I use Ambien, I literally have to take it in bed because within minutes, I can barely stand up and I say and do stupid things. Now my husband get's a big kick out of it but it's almost rediculous how quickly it works. The trazadone I took last night made me feel like I was hung over, like I was still drunk mixed with nausea and an instant headache. Also my heart was racing. I have taken this medication before I had GBS without any problems what so ever. Cold medications, pain meds., anything I take makes me feel loopy within 10 minutes. Is this just me? Does it have to do with our absorbtion rate? Should I cut the pills in half or something? HELP!!!

I have a SO right now taking or overtaking ambien, and personally I think it's a very addictive drug. I use a small amount of an antidepressant to sleep at night, and have no problems with sleep otherwise. As for Trazadone, I've heard of it, but no information about it. Good luck with the switch. Oh hon. I take trazadone. Preop it didn't work this fast.. now... BOOM, I'm "tipsy" and need to get in bed asap. I take it as I get into bed. I don't have a hung over feeling though. As long as I can sleep at least 6 hours I'm good when I wake up. 7 or 8 is better. Try taking half the pill and see how you do. Sounds like it's too strong for you. What is your dosage? Good luck.

Everything we stick in our mouths gets processed faster becasue it's hitting our bloodstream within minutes. In a normal gut, it can take 30-45 minutes for most oral stuff to take effect. I became toxic on flagyl at the regular dose as had absorbed it so quickly, my hands became compltely numb as I was pulling into drive trhough and ran onto the curb! Luckily, the same effects pass quickly as the body processes it out.

I have the same effect with Ambien, but it doesn't last as long.....I am always awake at 3am. The trazodone is an antidepressent that is used for sleep, pain management and some other things. Those nasty side effects may go away after you use them more. The beauty of trazodone is it is not a controled substance so it is not addictive.
I didn't even think about the absorbtion issue with antibiotics too.....man, this is stuff we maybe should be including in our learning sessions before surgery!

Thanks for your reply's and Michelle, I am going to try half the dose and see what happens. It is only 50mg's to start with though. I can handle the sleepy feeling, it was the nausea and the icky feeling that made me not want to take it again. I just can't believe how quickly meds work now with our surgery.

I remember taking an Ambien after the Surgery for a sleep study. Within 30 seconds I started getting double vision and an inability to focus well. I barely made it to the bed and was out until the morning. Every medication is absorbed so much quicker now.

I take Tylenol PM almost every night, and even that hits me hard within 15 minutes or so. No wonder we're warned against booze...
