Default water loading????

Does anyone know what 'water loading' is? LisaBoston mentioned it in her personal story. Her doctor suggested it after 3 months post-op.

You drink as much as you can 15 minutes before you eat to fill your roux limb and helps you eat less. I don't know if it works. I do know I drink when I feel hungry instead of eating.

Hey, you read my story......thanks. Yes, my doctor said ok to do it, but really I haven't needed to do it to date. I do drink lots of fluids between meals and still don't get the hungry feeling, but I will do it if I find tha I need to......good to know my doctor approves, but I have yet to find many people who do it.

I have a question related to water loading and mostly just about drinking in general. Will you stretch out your pouch by drinking too much??

I don't think you can stretch out your pouch by drinking water so quickly because it passes through so quickly. I still have a hard time drinking too fast. I still sip. I guess if you ate and drank at the same time, it might stretch the pouch.

I was a huge gulper before surgery and I am trying to just sip sip sip. But there have been a couple of times that I drank and my little pouchy was uncomfortable, so I am a little worried I might be stretching.

I don't think you can stretch the pouch by drinking too much water because it passes pretty quick. If you eat and drink together, it might make a difference.

I know that I can't drink too much at a time...it hurts. I still sip. I know people who can gulp and drink so much at a time. I wish..

As many have told me here, think of your pouch like a funnel. Liquids drain out of it quite quick, while solids stay in longer. The pouch rules for dummies actually says that stretching your pouch a little is a good thing. From what I learned it the anastomosis opening that we have to be concerned about stretching too much.

In the end, a lot of this stuff is subjective. There are times I can gulp liquids and other times not. I find the cold drinks go down easier than the hot ones. I can get the hot ones down, just not as fast.

I am one of the ones that had a stricture early out and had a dialation to 15cm at the anastomosis site, with expectations of shrinkage to 10-12cm. Who know what it really is.
