Default Why is it acceptable to make fun of MO???

I was reading on another message board about divorces for men (don't ask lol) and one made off handed comments regarding his wife's weight gain etc. This got me to thinking why is MO the one disability/social ill/ whatever that it is still okay to not only discriminate against but to also ridicule one over?

Movies are made about MO and how much they can put away. Fat Jokes run rampant. MO are charged out the behind for clothing to cover said behind. And this is all OKAY?????!!!!!!!!

In another post I posted about a guy who left his wife for being fat. What is it that MO people are targets for everyone?

Race: Nope off limits
Sexual Orientation: off limits
Stupid "blonde" jokes: nope off limits
Religion bashing jokes: nope that's off limits too....even the ones that start w/ a Rabbi, priest, preacher and Muslim cleric where in a row boat.

So why do you guys think this is still the one socially accepted signma in society to make fun of people over???

I beleive that society still thinks that if a person is MO, it is because they chose to be and there fore is subjected to the ridicule.

Unlike race or desease IE: alcoholism, the blame is else where. With weight, it is considered something that some one can change if they really wanted! They just have to stop eating.

We know different, but society still needs educating!

I agree with Rain - perhaps even taking it s step further is that it is easier to point out someone elses "flaw" (in being MO) versus facing that it could very well happen to them (if they perceive themselves as having nay weight to lose)...

Who knows - I have just come to the conclusion that lots of people in this world plain old suck...except for you folks here

I guess it depends on the folks you encounter - I run into people who tell racist, sexist, religious or otherwise-offensive jokes, stories, or send them via email. I can't believe it sometimes, but it exists... maybe because I am in the Deep South, and some of those things are socially more acceptable??? Don't know if that's it, but throwing things out there...

The movie that Eddie Murphy just came out with - "Norbit"? - the jokes are entirely dependant upon the one character's obesity - sad... doesn't seem to be doing well with critics either, but what about the masses, who, no offense, generally like stupid crap like that?

I really don't know - I agree with Whit - I honestly think most people suck. Pretty sad.

I think it is something easy to make fun of. I would never make fun of someone for their weight or any other thing for that matter. I don't see someone's body when I meet them. I look inside at their heart...

Most people do not tho...They are sure missing out too.

This is one of my personal pet peeves. It's not even done it a clandestine manner. People have already mentioned movies like Shallow Hal and Norbit. Can you imagine the outcry if the person openly ridiculed in those movies was Black, Asian or gay?

As others have stated, I think it really is because most people think we're MO on purpose...that we choose to just keep on eating and don't care about our weight. They see it as a character flaw...that we have no self control. Personally, I think we should protest by sitting on people who make fat jokes.

Default Wasn't there just some big thing with Rosie and Trump

about this exact subject? Someone posted the article, but Trump said something about her "Ugly fat face" or something. The article pointed out that if he has said her "Ugly black face" or "Ugly Jewish face" he would have been drawn and quartered and rightly so. But fat? They let is slide...Funny, 60% of our country is overweight - we're a majority - think we'd flex some muscle about this??

Its because people need to make fun of bigger people to make themselves feel better and more superior.
