Default give blood...play rugby

That's a bumper sticker thats on the back of my SUV. I used to play back in the day, when I was considerably larger. Now that I'm fabulously long and lean I am thinking about getting back onto the pitch but I'm a bit concerned about being rough and tumble with my old mates. I should probably talk to my surgeon about this and I will, but I'm wondering if anyone on here has tried playing any contact sports post surgery. I am more than a year out now and feeling great and with the 6 Nations Cup going on now I have really been dying to get out and see if I still have what it takes to play. I am in good...ok, great shape now. Still running and swimming and lifting, and I have taken off the 15 that I put back on over the holidays from boozing and falling off the path by eating sugary, fatty crap. Maybe I should just accept that I am getting old (38) and my rugby days have probably past me by...

Anybody???

Your only as old as you make yourself think you are. (is that how it goes?) I would get permission from the doc and get out there and do what made you happy.

Default Contact sports

I also was concerned about this post op. I talked to my Dr and he said that, if I was up to it, there was nothing I couldn't do. I play Water Polo. It is not as brutal as Rugby but pretty close. They only problem I have had is not taking advil after playing. Remember ice and Bengay are your friends. I have been playing/practicing 5 days a week since I was about 3 months post op.

Good Luck

Jennifer

Some people are like a Slinky ... not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs.

I'm the queen of acting like I'm much younger than I "should" be...And I agree with Kevin. This would be my justification: you prolly just added 20 years of life to your span...right? So if you're approaching middle age, then subtract 10 years off your real age. Under 30, you'd be the perfect age for a rough and tumble sport...YAY!!! Go for the gusto and enjoy every single minute of it (with your doctor's permission)!!!

Besides all that...isn't this one of the reasons you had the surgery in the first place?

Good luck and don't forget your cup! Heeheeee.....

You guys rock! I'm going to give it a shot and see what happens....after the doc ok's it of course...

Jennifer, don't sell yourself short...water polo is plenty brutal. I remember seeing a match in college where the water was pink.
