Wheres The Beef!!!!
I am 5 months out from surgery, down 70lbs (seems as if its coming off slow compared to others progress) but as to my question, I was told by my Dr. that I cannot have beef for a YEAR. I am so tired of chicken, feel as if I am going to start laying eggs soon Is there a reason no beef for a year??? I know there are some Dr's that dont restrict beef. Was just wondering if I dare to try some.

I think your weight loss is great! I haven't lost really fast either, and I think it's good! I want to try to tone it up as I lose it. I think if you lose it too fast, your skin doesn't have time to bounce back. Not that mine is bouncing back! lol! I have plenty of jigglies!!! Still, I think slow and steady wins the race!
My book says no red meat for 6 months. I guess every doctor is different. I do know that red meat is hard to digest, so that could be the reason. I am able to eat chicken, pork chops, pork ribs, pork roast, ham, meatloaf, etc. I just can't have steak yet, but am fine with that! I think with the variety of the above mentioned, plus soups, hormel chili, the chicken fiesta bowl at Taco Bell, with no rice, the Turkey/Cheese wrap at Subway, and of course my favorite, goldfish crackers, there is no reason to be sad!

I can speak to my own situation. Beef is very hard to digest and the fat content is much higher, I would think you have many options other than just chicken, I have used Tilapia (fish), Cod, Turkey, Shrimp. These are some of the foods I have used and I am sure there are more. I use seasoning by McCormick Like Cajun, Caribbean Jerk, Lemon Pepper. I hope this helps.
I don't not pretend to understand what is correct for some one 5 months out,These are what I have used because I needed to eliminate Beef as well..

I'm a wierdo
I have much more trouble with pork. Beef, if made very "tenderly" I can do pretty well with, and have been since before 6 months. I had trouble with pork pre-op though and always did well with Beef. I also have an iron deficiency, so I though I'd get more beef in to help with that.
And your weight loss is great. I've done only 70 pounds in almost 8 months, so don't worry - we're all different. Although now that I've told you I eat beef, you may fear that is the reason. I doubt it...
You do what you think will work, but take it easy, just try a bite at first and see how it goes.

I've been eating red meat-- okay, GROUND red meat-- since about 3-4 weeks out, and I haven't had any problems. Actually, one of my "staple" meals is something I call "taco mush," which is FF refried beans mixed with a couple of tablespoons of taco meat (made with lean ground beef) and some LF shredded cheddar, all mixed together. It looks gross but tastes great and goes down really well for me, no problems whatsoever... I make a big batch of it every week or so and "portion" it out into small single-portion-size containers, so when I'm packing my food for work, all I have to do is toss a bowl of it in the bag and that's my lunch... or breakfast, if I happen to not be in the mood for egg that day!
Wendy's chili goes down really well for me too, as does meatloaf... I haven't tried steak yet (and am in no real hurry to do so), but I don't know what I'd do if ground beef wasn't in my meal plan...

I would not have made this past year without beef. I had trouble with chicken and salmon at points, but believe me, beef has never caused an issue with me. I even order steak in a resturant...I don't eat a lot, but I enjoy it very much. Chili, with ground beef was one of my first foods.
I believe in following doctors rules, but I think you would be hard pressed to find many post-op patients who didn't have beef in the first year.

Ooooooh I don't think I could make it without beef. Good to see that Nohr doesn't restrict that. We are ranchers and beef is definitely a staple at our house. It's one free perk that comes with the job.

I love me some steak! I pick it over all other types of meat. i have been eating it from about 4 months out and I have never had a problem. I always pair it up with grilled or steamed veggies and I love it!

I'm not quite 3 weeks out and had my first chili tonight! I made it with a ground venison/beef mixture and it went down fine. Just chew it well and go slow till you see how your pouch handles it. I've had cod, tilapia, shrimp, deli ham and mahi too so far. I wouldn't recommend the mahi--it was very dry and turned to a ball of sawdust after a couple of chews.
