Default Did anyone read about the new drug??

I read in the newspaper today that the FDA is allowing Zenical to be sold over the counter in a lower dose. This is the fat blocking weight loss drug that causes loose stools. The body absorbs less fat in fatty foods. I should have cut out the article. I forgot the name of the drug. I was thinking I should take it just to get my bowels moving...

It's going to be called "Alli". I tried the original stuff (xenial). THe OTC is going to be 1/2 strength. It gave me wicked diarrhea, then I was afraid to take it if I was going anywhere cuz of the fear of "leakage" which is one of the big side effects.

Its been for sale on the shelf in Canada for some time. I took the Zenical form of it several years ago and would not recommend it. The dose on the shelf is lower, but I know of people taking it and taking more than the box recommends. I guess in many ways its in the same category at laxitives.

Default Btw

I was teasing about taking it to get my bowels moving...my GI doc gave me a magic potion that I will start taking tomorrow. I didn't feel safe testing it during work. I have to drink it daily and mix with coffee or liquid. It is a miracle drink..so he says.

I would be afraid to take anything that causes "leakage".. Do you remember "Olestra" (Do they sitll make that??) The bags said "Caution: May cause anal leakage".. No thanks! Ick! I hope that drug doesnt make people sick.. and I hope its kind of like the sinus meds.. where they have to go to the counter to get the otc.. teenage girls may go nuts on this stuff..

I read the bottle and it says not to take long term unless a Doctor says to and he wants me to take it daily. What do you think Duckie? I have always had constipation issues even prior to wls..but now it is worse. Dr C and my GI doc said no more stool softeners or fiber for me...they want me to take this miralax

It is supposed to be powerful stuff (miralax) but then again it doesn't work for everyone. Take it before bed tonight. Good luck. I hope it works for you. We have a lot of kids with chronic health issues that take it daily due to consitipation and it works most of the time.
