Ladies - I hope you feel better soon - my butt hurts now in empathy to your pain It is also probably a little raw from all the wiping after going - you may want to try Tucks medicated wipes to "put out the fire". I also use Cotonelle flushable wipes as they are softer and gentler than regular TP, and does a more thorough cleaning of that area.
Anywho - I hope y'all feel better!

I actually just got back from the grocery/drugstore with my parents. Kattin, I couldn't find the cream for cows lol. I didn't want to ask for help either haha, but I looked everywhere(even the cracks on the floor) and didn't find it. I did come across some PreparationH wipes and bought them. I'm using both the stinky cream from last night and the wipes so hopefully it will work because if it doesn't my dad's dragging me to the doctor tomorrow(I had to tell him what was happening to me since it was kind of obvious...I walk like I'd been horseback riding for five hours none stop).
I'm thinking if the cream & wipe convo doesn't work then it must be an abscess like Rachel's or something else that's not hemorrhoids. I'm not looking forward to having a shot there though, that would be like pouring rubbing alcohol on an open cut. I will be screaming bloody murder lol, if you guys sense a "disturbance" tomorrow morning that will probably be me screaming my lungs out at my PCP's office or ER(my dad's favorite hang out...geesh!)

Jess,
You have so many things going on right now it is hard to pinpoint what the actual problem is. In general, we try to give a person one disease. So if the diarrhea has been the inital problem, the low potassium is due to it and hopefully you just have a raw and irritated behind. If you have a thrombosed hemorrhoid or abscess, the treatment hurts, but you feel better afterward. If you are comfortable telling us, please let us know how it goes.
BTW...if you do meet with Dr. Sands, she is a colleague of mine and doesn't know I have had GBP surgery. If she asks how you got her name, please just don't out me if you know what I am saying.

Okay, this might sound weird, but I bet $100 you could find Bag Balm at a feed store/ag store type place. It's probably also available at your local (larger) pharmacy, since a LOT of people use it. (My parents own a farm and my dad swears by it for everything-- he's like the dad in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is with the Windex!)

As for the pain level, it hurt when they gave me the shot to numb it and then the pain after is only slightly higher then it was before. They put me on antibiotics for 10 days and told me that after a day or two of draining that I would be feeling better. The pain is all of the pressure inside the abscess.
I hope that you get some relief soon!!

From YEARS of experience in getting those lanced.. I can tell you that I will not let them "numb" the area first. The actual lancing hurts way less than the numbing, and then once its done, its done.. When I had the novacaine.. not only did the area they lanced feel sore (but way better) after they lanced it, the spot where the shot went in hurt too.. just my two cents.. (Hopefully you never have to do it again Rach!).. And Jess.. Jeeps!! Hope they figure you out soon girl!

Any sort of flushable wipes, witch hazel wipes (Tucks, Prep-H, etc.), and diaper cream can and should be your friend.

Reoccuring Abscesses & Discharging Fistulas (warning very long)
This thread made me laugh soooo much my stomach aches!!! The suggestion to try Bag Balm and reference to our fathers “believing in something as a cure for everything” made me think of my dearly departed “Pa” believing in Horse Liniment for anything from strained ankles to sore muscles and even arthritis or rheumatism
I have only recently joined, so although the thread is 6 months old I thought that I would add my penny's thought....
Having suffered from reoccurring perianal abscesses since I was 21 and living with a discharging fistula I hope that I am able to help someone else with sharing my experience.
Let me first explain the difference between an abscess and a fistula (this is from my experience and not necessarily 100% medically correct):
An abscess is like a massive very painful boil, if you like, and often so deep under the skin that it cannot “break through” by itself and needs to be lanced by a doctor with a scalpel to enable it to drain. When the abscess has been lanced it needs to be dressed by packing iodine soaked gauze strips into the incision (very painful and only possible if you have a hands-on partner/friend), until it has drained properly, and to allow the wound to heal from the inside out, the skin should not be allowed to grow over the still healing incision and therefore leaving bacteria inside the wound. If the skin does grow over the still healing incision then a fresh abscess will form and it will have to be lanced again. If the incision does not heal properly and keeps on draining then you are stuck with a fistula (also called a discharging sinus). To treat a fistula requires another surgery and in my case I had a Fistulectomy (laying open of the fistula) where the surgeon creates another incision to open up the sinus again to allow it to heal from the inside out. PS: I have just read an article on the Internet
http://www.indianjsurg.com/article.a...aulast=Mangual)
which actually describes an alternative way of treating these discharging sinuses.
I had my first perianal abscess when I was about 21/22 (1995/1996). At that time I was living in a small town in South Africa and my GP did not know any better than just to point a scalpel at it and to allow it to drain. I was not told about packing it with the iodine dressings and to allow it to heal from the inside out but, nevertheless, the relief from not having the pressure building up (in a very sensitive place), and the fact that he was absolutely gorgeous, was enough to make him my hero, until I had to bare my bootie for him twice more (possibly the same abscess flaring up again and again) ….
By the time I moved to the capital, Pretoria, one of the abscesses flamed up again and two of them formed discharging fistulas. I was referred to a surgeon (he was probably 73 at the time) who performed two Fistulectomies, one on each side of my inside bum cheeks - I joked at the time that if he had to carry out the same surgery on any of my skinny friends then they would not have had enough bum cheek to allow for the size of the wound (10cm² = 3 inches² – I hope I did the conversion correctly?) - although, at the time, I was very traumatised to see the scars in the mirror, while sitting in the bath a day after the opp, and asked my then husband to leave all the painkillers on the bath’s edge and to leave me be…… which he did not do, I have to say those two have healed beautifully and that surgery was a success!
I was left in peace until 2002 (28 years old) when I had my next episode…. By this time I was living in the UK, and had split up from the husband, and my dear Dennis (boyfriend) had to nurse me through it all. I struggled through 21 months of abscesses & fistulas and in that time went under the knife five times (full anaesthesia) when I decided that enough is enough – no more surgery for me. Thank goodness so far the abscesses have not returned, and as I have discovered a way of dealing with the discharging fistula, I would rather live with that than have another surgery to try to resolve it.
If any of you are still struggling with a reoccurrence of the abscesses or are worried about discharging fistulas let me know and I will share my own theory with you – again not medically proven but it works for me and has worked for me for 5 years!
PS: Not sure if any of you caught the episode on Oprah when she featured “An Angel in Ethiopia”? It was about young women suffering from fistulas after childbirth:
http://www.oprah.com/tows/pastshows/...040116_b.jhtml
very interesting and moved me so that I became a “love-a-sister”

Any questions just ask - or if you are embarrassed to discuss it out in the open then PM me

BAG BALM!!! The Miracle Cure
Royal Mess Jess.... since you originally posted this in FEBRUARY... please tell me how this ended up for you.... I read the entire string, and didn't see any more...
BAG BALM! I use it for everything too... since I'm pre-op and have a giant belly, I get yeasty rashes on occassion in the skin folds... A little Bag Balm clears it up overnight like magic! Walgreens has it - by the Corn Huskers and hand lotions... or am I giving away my midwest, milk cow location? It come in a square green tin - and is a stinky amber colored ointment... Yes, originally used for cows udders... but man has reclaimed it for human use too!
Your Friend, TOONY
