Thanks for your honest post! I'm still pre-op, but I really need to hear how people like yourself are doing in the real-world. I hope to be there soon enough. Of all of the great information that I have learned on this forum, the most valuable is the realization that GBS is on the body, not the head. I'm trying to analyze those issues before surgery, thanks to honest experiences like yours.
Even though I don't know you, I am so proud of you - you have looked at your recent experiences head on, recongnized them for what they are, admitted and shared them with all of us, and made a decision to change. Man, that's powerful!
I wish you well along this journey - thanks for sharing it with me (us!)

That's good advice, and being a "newbie" I will take it to heart. I won't ever drink because I take Paxil and xanax for anxiety...so wouldn't risk drinking with those meds. Also, I work for a group of GI docs, so I know what alcohol will do to the liver..not to mention risking getting an ulcer in my little pouch. I eat what I'm supposed to, take my suppliments, and go to the gym a few times a week. I am not going nuts with the exercise, but enough to hopefully, gradually, lose my excess weight and keep it off this time! I know this "honeymoon" phase won't last forever...but it's sure nice not to be hungry...or when I am hungry...to be able to eat a little and be satisfied. It's awesome. Does that feeling go away after a year??? Thanks for the words of wisdom. I really do appreciate you all. I learn so much on this forum. I can't even imagine having this surgery without this forum!!!

I am pre-op, but information like you just gave is invaluable. Its easy to listen to how wonderful people do, and to know that it is alot of work, and the things to watch out for... but to see some of the bigger risks later down the road, really gives me an edge I think.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. You are a very brave man, and Kudos! for acknowledging your "slip" and being able to start down the path to recovering... You should be proud of yourself for jumping back in!

Hey....we've missed you! I appreciate your honesty and totally understand your struggles. I so far, have managed to keep the extra weight at bay, but it is such a tough job to maintain. I too am finding the love of alcohol......and I never even drank before surgery. I am watching myself carefully for now.....make sure it is only when I am out and that no weight gain results....but we do have to be very aware and vigilant. I am glad you are working through it all, and that you are here getting support, giving support, and warning us all again. People, it really can be YOU someday....it's the nature of the beast. Keep us posted....and we need you here.

Marty...so true. I don't know if it is a disinhibition from the weight loss, over confidence, a sense of indestructability when you are in shape, or a new way of coping...but stuff changes. You say and do things you never thought you would. I am not talking about extremes, but definitely more bold of choices in every day life.

First off Dyann....OMG you lok more and more awesome and sexy EVERYTIME I see a new pic.....WOW! Ok, now.....I definitely say and do manythings I never would have in the past. Some of it good, some of it bad, and some of it just plain fun. And for me, not being married, some has maybe bordered on extreme differences...lol. But yes, all those things factor in. But I was so very focused on goal, had a steady BF, then broke up but was focused on my plastics.....NOW I am facing all the changes at once almost. So weird, but definitely worth dealing with.

Thanks to all for the nice comments. It's true, there is a sense of invincibility when you finally get into good shape, that's generally a good thing but it can be dangerous. Just be sure to keep re-evaluating yourself.
PEACE
