Question Surgeons in Bay Area...

Hey There,

Just wondering if any of you in the bay area could recommend surgeons. I have been discussing meeting with a surgeon and she doesn't want me just going to some random person I haven't had recommended to me. My aunt had the surgery, but that was in Indiana (where I'm originally from). I have seen plenty of websites, but wanted to get your thoughts and opinions on different surgeons. Also, how does it work? Do I just call to make an appointment to discuss the options? Do I need to have anything done before the appointment? I'm sure it's probably different everywhere, but could use any info you have!!!

THANKS!

Kim

You might check out ths link, which identifies Centers of Excellence in the SF area - http://www.surgicalreview.org/locate...CA#srchResults -

maybe one of these places will have a program coordinator who can be very helpful in assisting you thru the process

good luck

You might need to start with your primary doctor - if he/she doesn't have any ideas, try to find a GBP support group in the area and go there, get some names. Each office/surgeon is different. You may want more education classes and requirements to feel prepared, or you may want to get in there as soon as possible and I bet you can find either option in the Bay Area.

Have you bought "WLS for Dummies?" Good overview and I found my road was much easier than the book described, but it was good to know the worst.

Good luck in your decision.

Kimber,

I had my surgery at Stanford Medical Center which is about a 30-40 min. drive from SF.

They have an excellent Bariatric Program that I think is cutting-edge...(pardon the pun)

You can check it out online by typing in "Stanford Bariatric" on a google search. My surgeon was Dr. John Morton who is head of the bariatric dept. at Stanford.
