Talking to the Doctor Tomorrow AM
I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and I am going to ask her about the surgery. Since she runs a bariatric program, I suspect that she will want me to get into that program. They do everything that I do now, except they also have to meet with a nutritionist. The thing is that I know what I am supposed to eat and how much I should eat, but I just cannot seem to make those choices consistently.
I'm a little concerned that if she wants me to go into that program, I will waste another year and be having this discussion again then. I need to find out if my insurance company requires a referral. If so, she may not be willing to give me one. If not, I suppose I could go to another doctor at the facility that does the procedure, but I really hope that it doesn't come to that. I really like this doctor and don't want to sever that relationship.
I'm actually more nervous about her reaction than the procedure. Isn't that strange.
Well anyway ...wish me luck!

Good luck Mike! I was the same way...nervous to approach my Dr. about the surgery. I ended up having to do the 6 months of nutrition classes and it wasnt' so bad...went by fast. I guess at the time it didn't seem like it went by fast, but it really did. Let us know how it goes!!

Good Luck! I was more frustrated that every time I brought up weight my doctor would change the subject.. so I made an appointment and told her to refer me. I went in with 12 reasons why, and the doctor information for the doc I wanted to be referred to. I did not give her the option of not referring me. Had she not given me the referral... I would have found another doctor that would.
If you do not want to go into her program.. then I would say DONT!! It is your body, your life, your decision. Tell your doctor how you feel.. I would be willing to bet if you told her you didnt want to go into that particular program...she would still give you the referral...
let us know how you make out!

all will be well
Welcome to the forum - you're just taking those first steps - it will be smoother than you think. The process just unfolds the way it needs to even if it takes time and strange turns.
Good luck!!

Just tell the doctor your honest feelings. There is no reason to do a 1 year program if your insurance doesn't require it. This is somewhat a buyers market. You get to decide who operates on you and which program to use. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I always say that even though we get angry and feel let down when we have to wait for surgery often times it's a blessing in diguise. It just gives you more opportunity to learn, more opportunity to start the head work that needs to accompany a successful journey. I know it's frustrating but if it's meant to happen, it WILL happen and at the right time for you. Keep faith and keep doing the things you need to do, it's all going to work out right.. you'll see!
