I live in TN Nashville area and my surgeon is Vanderbilt Surgical Weight Loss Clinic. I have Aetna HMO. On line it states that weight loss surgery is covered if you meet these requirements and a theres a list. I meet them cause my bmi is 53 and a couple other things I have. The Multidisciplinary surgical preparatory regimen that is stated is 3 months before sugery and I was accepted into the Vandy program on 12-07-06. So my three months will be up soon and thats about all that I could find out on line. Aetna said the regimen needed to include diet, exersize, education, and nutrition to ensure that I am ready for the sugery to be a success. I say OK so I'm starting a diet and walking (what little I "can" do is better than nothing I have back problems). I'm hoping the back and hip pain will get better with weight loss.

Hi. I went to my insurance company's web site and found their "clinical policy bulletins". From there I went thru their alphabetical list to find their specific policy on the surgery. It was listed under obesity surgery. I kinda had to dig around the site to find it...but it was definetly there. It details all of their requirements to the letter. Good luck finding that
