Advice needed from other "pears"
Hi all, I had my three month post op visit from my doctor, all is well (Yea!). But, he admitted that because I am a pear shaped person (verses the apple) that my weight loss will be completely different than those apples. He said I'd be more inclined to stair step my weight loss, rather than lose it steadily as some can. And he said it's harder to gage where I might land, weight wise too. So, for any other "pears" out there that have hips, thighs, and a backside - with not much belly or chest - do you do any special execises to help? Any tips or tricks to keep the weight loss going in a healthy manner? I'm very careful about what I can eat, haven't even looked at sugar or anything, but I do see my husband dropping much faster than me and I'd love to at least keep up a little!
Thanks for any suggestions all!

There are no secrets or special tips.....you ca no regulate how your body will lose the wiehgt. Focus on health and nutrition and let your body take care of the rest. It won't matter until you reach goal...so save your energy to getting stronger and healthier. I had no clue that the shape I ended up with resulted out of the body I started with.

Possibly a pear forever
I, too, was a pear (or an hourglass with extra sand in the bottom, pick a metaphor), and even at what is now a size 8, am still a pear. My hips and backside are still outsize for the top of me... I was a 42D, now I'm a 34B up top... But skinnier, baby, is skinnier. I like this teeny pear a lot better than my previous Bartlett butt!

When I was pre-op I was big all over but I was even bigger in the hip and leg area. I still have "junk in the trunk" and I find that the elliptical at the gym is helping that. I have lost one inch on my hips in the last week and a half and I think it is due to that.
Men lose fast we all know that dont compare yourself to him! You are doing great! Just work out the areas that you want to improve and focus on them more.

I'm a pear, although I have boobies. But as was stated, you just need to concentrate on nutrition and exercise and understand you are going to slim down to the appropriate weight for YOU. Your body is not going to change shape, just size. And definately do not compare yourself to anyone else, especially your hubby, everyone is different, and comparing yourself to your husband is comparing apples and oranges.... hmmm... apples... oranges... pears... damn I really AM hungry....

I am an apple, was a big round apple. I don't know if its easier to loose being one shape or another. I know lots of people who are pears and lost it faster than me...I have heard other apples says its a lot harder for an apple to loose around their middle. I think it really is different for everyone and depends on the kind of exercise you do. I am interested to hear other peoples answers to this.

I would think it would be harder for apples to lose around the middle because that is where their weight is? I know its going to be hardest for me, but only because that is where 90% of my weight is... maybe its just that simple... Pears have trouble with hips because that is where the weight is??
Im sure its not REALLY that simple.... just my 2cents

Well, I don't know about which shape loses which way, but I am definately a PEAR with tiny waist and hips that never end. I didn't stair step though and have lost in a nice steady line. The only time it slows is once a month, and sometimes stops for a week...but starts right back up again, though slowly. I also have noticed a dramatic loss from everywhere but the trunk! These hips are going to hold out no matter what! I have added lower body exercises and toning to my routine to combat the hips from getting outa hand. (Shakira ain't got nuttin' on me! LOL!!)

I am a pear too I am just happy I am a much smaller pear than I use to be! I think everyone is diffrent you just exercise to target the area you want to work on but we still come in all diffrent shapes pear, apple and other fruits in between! Hang in there you just may have to work on a few things but that's OK I do too!
