I'm a pear all the way! Anjou I think
Walking walking walking. Trims up the lower half of your body fast! You don't even really have to speed walk about 2.5 to 3.5 mph for about 20-30mins. Don't forget the cardio (gotta keep the heart strong) and strength training to keep the flab to a MIN!

Thanks all! I am doing the treadmill now - but haven't done weights or anything since I had gone through two surgeries and had a bit of a rough time. I've stepped up the treadmill time and speed over the last few weeks. I'm struggling with the typical plateaus right now - but not gaining so happy about that!! I'm sure all gals can relate to how frustrating it is to watch the guys lose so quickly and we work and work at each pound!! I told my husband I was going to pull down on his shirt the next time he weighed to add a few pounds back on!! LOL

Hi Penny,
Don't compare to Mike...it'll just frustrate the hades out of you...Men and women lose differently. Scientific fact, and nothing we can do will change it. I'd never heard the theory about how different body shapes lose in varied ways. When I started out, Iwas on my way to being an apple, but I have most of my life been a pear and am back to a pear shape...come to think of it, I was more of a watermelon before...lol...you're going to do great, just concentrate on being healthy and taking the right steps. You and Mike are so lucky to have each other to go through this with~

I dont know about you but I really think the elliptical works the body better for those areas. Not to mention you get a better work out in half the time. I can do 6-7 miles in a hour and burn 700-800 cal on the elliptical but I can't even make it past 30 -40 min on a treadmill with only 200-300 cal. Just a thought.

one more note. I have lost more weight around my waist (I am the apple) than anywhere else and if I could have selected where I wanted to loose the most, thats where it would be (did I get my cake and can eat it too?).

Remember that for heart healthy, carrying weight around the hips and thights is much better than carrying it around the waist. For me, my waist and hips are only 2 inches apart and I still have many inches on the waist to go to meet the heart healthy program...of which I will probably never do...but I have lost 20 inches on my waist since surgery, and that just awesome. You can do it too!

Apple to start with - and still an apple but a smaller one. Not sure which shapes lose quicker, but as mentioned before - I like being the smaller version no matter that shape

Default Pear

I don't know - I'm a pear and it has been slow going.

Any by the way - men lose faster so don't even try to compare there!

I would also recommend the eliptical machine. The one at my gym has two different "glute" workouts that I do. Yea - I feel the burn. Has it helped? I doubt it - but at least I can say I tried.

I'm actually going to see my trainer tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. for a "butt and thigh" work-out. I'll post some ideas if get any good ones.

Otherwise, yea - smaller pear would be my choice too. Hope I get there!!
