Progress? Comparison buddy
Hi all! Ok, first of all I hope this does not sound too pathetic...I am looking to see if there are any folks out there who had their surgery the week of 10/10/2006 and a begining weigh between 290-305. I would like to find someone I can realistically compare weight loss with to see if I am on track and I think it may be motivating. Each time I go to the doctor I hear "your doing fine, everyone is different" I find myself worrying that my progress is too slow and when the weight does stop coming off I will not have reached my goal. I do not want anything crazy like phone calls and such, just posts through this site and possibly emails in the future. Anyone interested? Again, I hope this doesn't seem too sad!

Welcome, I didn't have surgery around your time, but check out this thread for October Staplers:
~~October Staplers~~
Regarding weight loss...remember that each person is different and you can't compare your WL to others. My podmate lost a lot more weight than I did and my long distance podmate lost WAY more than I did, yet I have been successful. One weighed more than me and the other less. Do you know about the chart (click on the link and you can put in your numbers...it works out high and low loss expectations.) Hope this helps you some.

OMG Thank you!
Both links are soooo helpful. I love my physician, but have found there to be a lot of missing information, even with regard to food choices. You guys have been SO wonderful! Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I tend to feel a bit lost at times. I can see you have come along way yourself..I can't wait! Thanks Again!

You are very welcome. I would have been lost without all the support I have received.
Ask away, that is why we are here!

Ya id say go with the chart rather than comparing against someone else. Some of us lose really fast and some slow but all that matters is that in the end it DOES come off. If you compare yourself against someone else Someone is going to end up feeling bad because chances are you wont stay within 5 lbs of eachother.

I think it's a good idea but yes keep in mind we all lose at different rates and such. I have my wl buddy and it's great because she's so supportive & we just talk about different things relating to the surgery and share advice, thoughts, or ideas. We both try to motivate each other & it has been soooo helpful to me. I hope you find a buddy soon.

Just so you know, the chart isn't perfect either. I started out way beyond expectations, went to 22 pounds below (that is I weighed 22 pounds more than it said I should at that point) and am now only about 10 pounds away. Go figure... It is an average sort of guessing thing, but just look at your own line. Mine is a slow, straight descent, it never curved too much (after the third week anyway)
Still, I now enjoy "catching up" to it. As long as I get there!

I am disappointed with that chart. I was religiously putting in my stats and then one day I go there and my chart is EMPTY!!!!!! I did not have this info written down anywhere else because I thought it was saved, and I guess my cookies deleted themselves and now I have a blank chart. I am SO depressed over this, so if you use the chart, please write it down also somewhere so you will have it if anything happens to the chart.

I found it to be a very useful tool. Guys are fewer here and we tend to lose a little faster. That meant that it wasn't gonna be really fair or effective to compare my weight loss to the lovely ladies that had the surgery the same time I did. That line though was a good motivator to keep the course. And yeah, if you clean your cookies you'll lose the info. So if you are tracking your eating habits or exercise or whatever in a written format some where then I'd put the numbers in there too. Just as back up.
