Default Getting Desperate!!

Okay, everyone. Most of you know that I've been butting up to a HUGE wall trying to get to onederland. I've been on a plateau for almost a month!! So now I'm getting desperate. Do you think a bowel prep would get me going? (pun intended ) and kick me off of this major plateau???

hehehe...don't worry, I'm not THAT desperate....but almost!!! I am going to do a bowel prep tomorrow but its for a colonoscopy on Monday. It will be interesting to see if over 24 hours of a clear liquid diet jump starts things again. Do you think it will work? We shall see....I can only hope!!

Default What to do?

When I was stuck, I increased my carb intake for a few days and just ate badly in a sense. I then would go back to pouch rules and drop. It was almost as if I had to trick my body. Sometimes when I don't eat enough, I actually don't lose any weight. My body seems to go into a starvation mode and holds everything I put into it including fluids.

It will be interesting to see how it goes with the bowel prep. You will probably drop into onderland because you are basically gonna be cleaned out. Dunno?

Best of luck with the colonoscopy. In terms of the plateau..it is only temporary...you will begin to drop again. Your body is probably trying to catch up with the losing. Hang in there...I will be thinking about you.

Thank you for the encouraging words, Dale. I actually talked to the nutritionist about this plateau the other night. We went through how I've been eating and she felt I was getting in a good amount of protein and calories. Basicly she thought I was doing everything right but that because of the huge weight loss that I had in a short amount of time, my body felt it needed to take a break. She said that I could probably expect a plateau of 4-6 weeks. Not something I really wanted to hear BUT she really encouraged me not to freak out about any of this. That it is very common and that as long as I continue to do what I'm doing it would start again. I have increased my protein hoping that would get it going again, it hasn't, so MAYBE a good clean out and decreased calories for 24 hours will. It will be interesting to see if it does anything.

The bowel prep will make you lose poop, water, and electrolytes. You know that. It will also depend how much IVF they give you the day of the scope. Up or down, it will be temporary. You know intuitively that you are doing everything right and it will start back up. My slowest month of weight loss was my 9th month. 10th and 11th both beat it. The weight loss ebbs and flows. I know there are weeks where I lost 3-5 pounds and I don't know why, but I never questioned those weeks. Keep your eye on the prize!!!

get rid of your scales. Only reason they are in my house is my dad uses them. I weigh only at the doc office, and I find that keeps me from obsessively weighing myself. J

Yeah, Dyann I know that what I will lose is "poop, water and electrolytes." *l* Just kinda hoping it will jump start some kind of weight loss, but I'm not really planning on it. *l* Just frustrated with this MAJOR stall SO close to onederland!! I'm really not sure how much my doctor gives IV fluid, wise. I've never had a colonoscopy before I've only assisted with them. We shall see. If its alot I will probably GAIN. I am trying to be patient. I know I am doing what I'm supposed to and intuitively I knew this plateau would be coming. I'm just not happy about it. *L*

Thank you for the encouraging words. Even though I knew all of that in my head its just nice to have confirmation from others.

I actually don't have a scale at home, just for the same reason you stated. I only weigh at work and I only work twice a week. So, I'm not jumping on the scales very often. I also weigh at support group meetings so that I am on the same scale that I officially used when I started this whole process (my surgeon's scale) but that is only twice a month. I'm still seeing the up and down thing with my weight and its been a month!! Oh, well...it will come...my head knows that...my heart is just frustrated.

bowel prep? YUCK!!!

Like Blueyz said, you may have to eat some crap (bad choice of a word before a bowel prep) food to trick it. I've done that in the past and almost regretted my food choice only to notice the following day that I lost 2 more pounds. And...how's that water intake???? You're just hovering!!! You can do it!!!

*LOL* Yeah...I was kidding. Just would be a nice side effect to a not so fun thing to do.

I have a HUGE family history of polyps (maternal grandmother & mother & maternal aunts) and rectal cancer (brother at age 33). I figured since I was working so hard at getting healthy it was time to get serious about being healthy in ALL areas. So, I had my doctor refer me to have a colonoscopy. Not fun, but like you said...necessary.

Thank you for your ever present support. I really do appreciate it.
