I'm so proud of us!
Here, on Thinner Times, we have a population that is Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, South American, Canadian, American, Australian, Swedish, English, Welsh, Male, Female, Gay, Straight, from every walk of life, and presumably every religious denomination, with our only commonality being morbid obesity or loving someone who is/was morbidly obese.
I am so proud of who we are, what we're becoming or have become. I'm incredibly proud of the courage and dedication it took on our part to strive to have this surgery, knowing the dangers, supporting each other through the physical and mental complications. For those who continue to fight for their right to have the surgery, I ache for your pain and salute your ongoing determination.
Like any family, we have our spats, but they have never been of the galloping never-get-over strain. This is my home away from home, and a continually bright and shining place in my life. Here at the holiday season, we have given each other the gift of community, of belonging to something greater than ourselves.
I just want to say how grateful I am to Drs. Callery and Potts, and to John Callery, for creating this place for us to gather and to come back to time and time again.
