The walk was too much fun!
I highly encourage everyone to join the gang at Lake Murray on Saturday mornings - what a great time! It gives us all a little more one-on-one time to talk about how things are going and provide support. Pre-ops and post-ops alike are welcome - we all need exercise, right? There's all kinds of different fitness levels, so don't worry that you won't have someone to walk with.
The walk this past Saturday was the most walking I've done since my surgery - 3 miles. It was frustrating to me because I used to walk up to 18 miles in a day. After the walk, I was EXHAUSTED, and didn't know if I could make the lunch plans that I had made with a friend. I decided to rest for about an hour, then I felt soooo much better! Ever since then, my energy is just getting better and better. I've incorporated a long walk/hike into each day, and I feel stronger after each one.
The moral of my story is - if you're a recent post-op, the walk may tire you. But if you allow plenty of post-walking rest time, and walk longer distances each day, your energy and endurance will improve dramatically.
Hope to see you out there this Saturday!
