Possible Stricture?
Hi guys I have a question for you. Sometimes when i'm eating I may be just started or just finishing but I get a feeling of food stuck right at bottom of the sternum roght in the middle! I think at one time I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia! Maybe that is what it is? i see the Dr thursday. It happens with food I have eaten before so it's not like a new food that my pouch doesn't like. Just curious if it has the makings of a stricture? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all! Mike

Mike, I don't have stricture experience...however, I do work for Digestive Health....GI doctors....and the food getting stuck business does sound like a stricture. From what I hear, it's pretty simple to go in there and dialate the esophagus so that doesn't happen. However, I don't have 1st hand experience. I know others on here have, and will respond to this. Now, if you have a blockage, or pneumonia, I'm your girl! lol! (I had surgery 10/23 and developed a blockage 1 week later, had to have a 2nd surgery 11/6, and then developed a bad case of pneumonia! I am currently home, but still on oxygen and breathing treatments. No idea when I will be able to return to work).....Good times!!! On the upside....the 2nd surgery was a success. I can eat just fine...no bad experiences at all...yet.....knock on wood!!!

Could be a few things. From my expereince with a sticture, it was a pressure in the chest, lots of slime and then up came the food. Didn't seem to matter what the food was, it came back up.
You can do a trial and error thing...change your foods up a bit, document the ones that give you trouble, eat much much slower, watch fluids around meal times and chew the heck out of the food. If you still get the same feeling after doing these things...it could be a stricture. I ended up only being able to do teaspoons of liquid at a time before I had my dialation. Keep an eye on it, having a dialation is better sooner than later. Let us know how it goes.

You are having the same feeling I had with my strictures and it was confusing at first for me because I could eat yogurt, pudding, or drink milk, but I couldn't drink any other fluids or eat ANYTHING else. Then, gradually it go to where everything was giving me that pain of being stuck. I didn't have the foam as much as I just had pain and then a choking feeling that made me gag to get it back out. The only way I could explain it is it felt like a I swallowed a bowling ball right in the center of my chest just above the bottom of my sternum. If it gets worse, you will definitely know it. Just keep an eye on it and tell your dr. what you are experiencing because things can go downhill really fast!

Hi guys, I'm thinking maybe it is a hiatal hernia because I had been diagnosed with one a few years back and had been on Prevacid for years. Also when I get this stuck feeling it is just pressure and if i can keep belching it goes away. I never have food come back up??? Maybe Dr coster will have some answers thursday. Thanks for your input, Mike

I had these exact same symptoms sometimes when I wouldn't chew enough...or just ate to fast. I didn't have a stricture though... Maybe try chewing better and eating slower SirMikey and see if that helps.
