Wow what an amazing journey you have been on this past year. You did such a awesome job writing how we all feel both pre op and post op. I liked your Lost comment. A show my husband and I both enjoy watching.

Think most of us will know that feeling once we become 'losers'. It's an adjustment.

Anyway, I want to say congratulations to you for all that hard work!

Ever thought about modeling?
Dank u. I lived in Soesterberg back in 1991 for about two years. I absolutely LOVED living in Holland. Friendliest and nicest place I have EVER been. I want to go back so badly.

Nobody makes pannekoeken in Texas. It makes me sad just thinking about it.

And thanks to everyone for all the kind words. You guys are all so awesome.

Don't ever feel bad about being a little bit 'vain'! That is what keeps people thin. It's when you stop feeling like you WANT to look good, that your old habits come back and you start to gain weight, imo.

Congrats on all your success : )

great post, bro. I spent 20 years in the Marine Corps, busting my ass (and my knees) to stay in great shape. I was always "Hey, big guy." Once I retired, it went to hell in a handbasket. What bugged the shit out of me is that I had it, and lost it. I was in the shape of my life then, and it went to hell in a hurry. I'm not sure what's worse....having started life overweight and dealt with it your entire life, or having been good, and lost it in a hurry. I'm just glad I'm on my way back.

cheers,
Tim

I used to go to Soest all the time. It had a cool (and the closest non air base) movie theater.

Oh man, I would go back to Holland in a heartbeat if I could figure out a way to afford the trip. I miss that place so much. I would even move there if it weren't for the fact that I wouldn't have a job or speak the language.

But one can dream ...

Yes, It's hard getting over here.

There are 3 (basic) Ways:
- partner with a Dutch or EU person
- take a job that will sponsor you for a work permit
- open your own business.

Me? I met a Dutch guy moved here to marry him. But the kind of work I did in the States is in demand here so I was able to get sponsored for a working permit through the company.

After a few months I decided not to marry the Dutch guy ... but I liked the country so I've been here ever since!

That's over 6 years now.

Well, if you ever manage to fly out here, you have an automatic dinner invitation with me to one of many dinner spots in Den Haag or Amsterdam.

Hey Rod. Your blog truly sounds like what I have been thinking ever since losing the weight. I absolutely hate it that people seem to "come around" after you lose weight and look better. I've also realized though that when you lose the weight, you also gain more confidence in interacting with people and that can make them notice you more also. My boyfriend knew me at my heaviest and we started dating a little after the start of my journey. He always says that he thought I was pretty before, but I seemed to be unfriendly and standoff-ish then. Once the weight started coming off, we started talking more and he said I was more outgoing which attracted him to me more.

Good luck to you and you look great. I would have dated you as a heavy person though, it just sucks that not everyone can see things that way.
