Question Changing Surgeons(?)

Hello gang!

I've been seeing Dr. Lavin for two months now and I'm very satisfied in the work he does and his practice. One of the problems I've had so far is I would be paying out of pocket for my surgery. Dr. Lavin charges $18.9k for the bypass. My mom has been out of town for 2 months for business meetings and when she returned I updated her on everything I've done so far. She told me that Dr. Lavin is a very good surgeon and very experienced, but she is very, very good friends with the surgeon who performs the bypass/lapband in her hospital(who was going to be my second choice) and he would apparently do the bypass for free, leaving me to only pay the fees for hospital and anesthesia, etc. That would be wonderful, but it feels odd changing surgeons after it feels like I've but so much time and money into another surgeon.

Let me know how (ya'll) feel about this.

Note: It would be shaving about $12,000 off of my surgery, at least.

My Opinion Is To See The New Surgeon And See What He/she Says. Find Out If You Like Them And Are Comfortable With Their Knowledge And Care. If You Would Feel Comfortable With Them Doing The Surgery And After Care Then Go For It. If Not Go Back To The Original Doctor.

$12,000 Is A Lot Of Money To Pay Just Because Of Any Guilt You Feel For Finding A Different Doctor First.

Beings you asked...*L*...

I would totally see the other Surgeon and see if you click with him too. Choosing a Surgeon is a huge step and finding the right one, with experience and expertise is critical. If all those things are the same, then you can compare facilites..if they are the same...then go with the lesser cost. Cost is a HUGE factor in this surgery, and we are paying them to do this.....who you ultimately choose is up to you...guilt free!
