Thanks so much everyone. I so value your support and friendship! Along with a good nights sleep and a few hours crying into my pillow I do feel a lot better! It helps to start a new day and carry on. I am so happy I turned to you all and not that damn cupboard. I would have had an extra 1000 or 2000 calories in the old days when I had a day like that. Thanks so much again for being there for me!

Default Trust your gut!

I think you are the absolute expert on your son. I had a "high need child" and I am sure that if I had sent him to public school at 5, they would have had him diagnosed with ADD in days. But I knew him well enough to know he needed a different style. I sent him to Waldorf school where he did all the creative, beautiful, dreamy things all day. By second grade he was ready to integrate - he just needed more time to be more of a "baby" and not thrust into reading and acaedmics. He needed to play and be a little kid for a while. Now he's in 6th grade, reads at a high school level and scores in the highest level on all standardized tests. He's playing football and has friends - he's doing great and is easy as pie now.

I only tell you all this useless information because if YOU are truly worried about your son's speech or his behavior, then there is cause and you will be a wonderful advocate for him and get him what he needs. If you don't know what all the fuss is about, or you feel like you understand him, you don't have to listen to any one else's ideas. You just plan for who he is.

As a public school teacher, it breaks my heart every day when I see kids smooshed into the ONE idea of how a kid should act or talk or whatever. I dont think it is helpful or healthy.

Trust your instincts - you are the number one expert on your son!

And the single parenting with a husband away SUCKS!! I did it for such a short time, 9 months, and I thought I'd lose my mind.

I think you're doing great. You are not failing ANYONE! There are parents who are alcoholics, curse at their kids, and much worse. YOU are doing a wonderful job!!

I am sorry you are going through this, but have to say it is so common for your kids to want it all. I have 3 of them who try to understand that things aren't always rosey especially now. They will get over it....

As for the speech thing, my first 2 had years of speech until high school and they corrected everything as they matured. My youngest was tested and found out that her odd words were the result of learning two languages at the same time, so she ended up not needing speech therapy. Time really is a factor and hopefully things will work out with time.

Vent anytime..we are here for you. I can understand how frustrated you feel. Hang in there...as you see there is so much love and support on the forum.

Girl Hang in there. I am going thru a whole bunch myself. A failing business for the third time, an controlling husband, a run away niece, and mounting financial strain because my husband deceided to buy a brand new car using business income.

I have walk away the pounds 4mile super challenge to relieve my stress and I usually go to gym for 2 hours because of all the crap so I do not have to see his darn face. I know that GOD will get me thru it and he will carry you too. Just remember that the devil comes calling when you are trying to make your life better. EVERYONE will put up road blocks including family to get you off track. The one thing I have is this website family and my focus on getting the surgey done. Just pray....

So sorry to hear all of the difficulties you are facing - it can seem totally overwhelming at times. I'm in the same boat with you financially - and tho my daughter doesn't have speech problems, she has had nonstop headaches for the past 2 months to the point where she loses vision and almost passes out. This especially concerns me because she is driving to college and will be driving to our local ski resort where she works as a snowboard instructor. She rolled her car going up there last year (without these headaches) which tripled our insurance and I'm terrified of that happening again if she loses her vision or consciousness. We have gone from specialist to specialist for her to be tested like a lab rat with still no answers or relief. All I can say is that you just have to take one day at a time and remember that nothing stays the same forever - whether it's good or bad. In the mean time, I find that prayer really helps. This board is full of incredibly wonderful and supportive people and I'm sure nobody minds hearing you vent! Hang in there - there is light at the end of the tunnel (even tho it looks dim now)!

Thanks again everyone. I am feeling better today. My husband is going to be home for Fri and Sat atleast and I am going to hand the kids over to him for the majority of it and take some time for me. We have the Navy Ball to go to this weekend, so it will be nice to get out just he and I, if only for a few hours before he goes off again. All your kind words, thoughts, prayers and insightful ideas are so appreciated. Though we all have never met in person, I feel closer to you than a friend next door.
