Default Huge blow to my psychi today...ughhh

As some of you know, I was suppose to get official approval for wls this week. I called the insurance company today to check in to see what's up. According to ins. co, they still have NOT received anything from my Dr's office. They said that last week when I called so the Dr's office sent it again. So now here I am with the Dr's office saying they have sent my info to the insurance company TWICE now and the insurance company saying they have never received anything. So I call the Dr's office yet AGAIN and they are sending a 3rd copy of my info out today. While I'm on the phone with the insurance company today, I ask them again...how long for notice of approval once they get the information from the Dr's office? The lady said
2-3 MONTHS...I'm like waht the he**. the Dr's office was told by the insurance company 2-3 weeks. In the meantime, I have decided to start a medically supervised diet, so 3 months from now when I get the frickin approval that says first you have to have a supervised diet or crap like that I will already be into the supervised diet.

Hell when your fat your fat...a supervised diet isn't for the mo. If we only need to lose several pounds that would be one thing but alot of us hve 100's to lose. What the hell is a supervised diet for a couple of months going to help!

Ughhh...I just wanna lay in bed for days and cry. This is so dang frustrating!

Thanks...I needed to vent before kiddos and hubby got home, don't need to be getting all pissy with them. Youguys are the best!

Hang in there. I know it is tough when you have even the most mild set back. My doctor required me to use cpap for a month before surgery. My doctor didn't submit the proper paperwork/prescription for my titration study, so getting my cpap was delayed by about three weeks. I was devastated at the time, because I knew that that would set my surgery back by three weeks also. I remember calling my momand sister in histerics. You have made a decision and want to get on with it, and the insurance company is dragging their feet; I get why you are so upset. You are doing the right thing by starting the supervised diet. By having your ducks all in a row as much as possible, your process will go that much smoother and quicker. Good luck to you and I hope it doesn't really take 2-3 months. Many times these places will give these time frames, when they are in fact much quicker. Take care

Ask your MD if they sent the information via fax (get the confirmation) or mail...ask them to resend via registered mail. Hope it gets straightened out.

I think that's an excellent idea. I worked as a medical office manager for years and I NEVER heard of ANY authorization taking that long...not even Medicaid! You may have to escalate this issue.

According to my Dr's office..my insurance company would only except the paperwork via mail. They do not accept faxes for this. I just don't know who to believe. they are both telling me opposite information

Depending on who you have, sometimes the approval process is online. I am sorry you are going through this frusteration - hang in there and I will pray that it works itself out quickly for you!!!

I am so sorry you are going through such a tuff time with the insurance company. That 2-3 months don't sound right. Check your state guidelines on approvals. I think you should stick with the plan you have about starting the supervised diet in the meantime and between time. Take it one day at a time and stay on top of the process. Keep checking to make sure that your case is being reviewed. Maybe ask who is handling your case and then contact them at least twice a week and ask how things are coming along and if there is anything that you are missing that he/she might need to help along your case. My prayers are with you.
