Exclamation OT: Weird...would you worry?

Well, I don't know if this has anything to do with the current liquid diet that I'm on or being dehydrated or what not but I noticed late yesterday afternoon that a part of my left thigh is numb. I can use the leg jus fine, no other part is numb except a part the size of a softball possibly. It's on the outer side of my thigh so there's no rubbing of any kind. There's no consistent pain except last night when I was laying in bed and bent my knees to accomodate the laptop on my stomach in a way that I could see the screen. The pain was(from a 1-10, a 7?) and it was like a gazillion needles or fire ants inside my leg(in the numb part). I quickly got up and tried walking and the pain immediately subsided, but it stayed numb(it's numb as I type this).

I told/asked my father(since he's a nurse I expected him to know something about it...) but he was no help, he just said it was weird, that he was worried that maybe it could be a blood clot and if I wanted to go to the doctor, I said no. I think it's extremely weird for it to be numb but I don't think it deserves a trip to the emergency room by any means, unless the numbness spreads or I feel some sort of "pain".

Also, I went to Wal-Mart with my parents(I wanted to walk, just in case) and I had to use the restroom. When I bent down, I felt this cold feeling running down the numb part of my thigh, like if water had leaked from somewhere and dripped down my thigh but when I touched it, it was dry, then I felt like something inside me(in the numb part) peeled(like you know when something is stuck to something else and you pull it apart from each other...), but no "pain" just a weird cold feeling. I told my dad and he said to just keep walking and told me if it continues that he'd take me to the emergency room.

It's just like the skin that's numb I guess. The muscle feels fine(when I walk) and the bones too...I don't know what's wrong! If it was happening to you, would you worry?

Default Well...

Jess...it sounds like some sort of nerve thing. Maybe you have a pinched nerve or something somewhere? Nerves can be really odd, giving all sorts of strange sensations. If it were me, I prolly wouldn't be too nervous about it...it will prolly pass in a couple of days. Maybe try some massage or a warm bubble bath?

In any event, I hope it clears up soon for you. Look at it this way, its something to get your mind off surgery for a day or two! Take advantage of the temporary distraction.

Thank you for the advice and suggestions. I've tried massaging it, slapping it, poking it, punching it(lol)...I feel it on my leg but not on my skin. I'm not totally freaking out but I'm a little scared, I do not want it to stay that way forever. I was thinking about taking up my dad's offer and seeing a doctor but then I remembered that the 21st I have the appointment with my PCP for the medical clearance letter and pre-op bloodwork so I might as well just ask him about it right?

Jess,
That's a great idea to wait til your PCP pre-op appointment. BE SURE to remember to ask about it.
