Your Approved ... No, Your Not Approved-Yet
Okay - Total confusion!
Apparently I've NOT been approved for the surgery, only for the initial consultation and "work up". The surgeon can't submit for approval until after all the pre-op testing is done.
I did however, find out I'll be having the laproscopic Roux-En-Y and not the LapBand as I thought (but hey - that could change too!)
Am I frustrated? Hell No! I know It's going to happen. I've come this far!
I'm sorry I got everyone excited. However, the surgeon's office still maintains an October date.
Onward and Upward!

Pat you are closer then you have ever been in your journey. Like you said you know it is going to happen so there is no reason to think or feel other wise. I am so proud that you hung in there and gave it all you had. October is great month. A lot of great things happen in October.

Pat,
Generally they won't approve the consultation until they're certain you're a good candidate! The process is underway! Woot

Hey Pat....I think if they approve you being considered then it'll be approved. You already know enough to know you are a good candidate. And that is awesome news that you may get the RNY! I'm remaining hopeful.

So glad it's the RNY
Pat,
I'm so glad that they're at least working you up for the RNY--you're in my thoughts, and I hope that it will be a downhill slide from here. I know it's been uphill all the way until now.

October Babies
Good for you Pat!
I am in the same stage as you.. Congratulations on the consultation approval. I am believing what Lynda said, and all the drs., nurses and co-patients at the support groups are saying the same thing...that if you are approved for the consult, you have a 99% chance of being approved for the surgery.
I sent my psych approval in to Dr. today, and called them to confirm that they received it. Now, it should be about 2 weeks before the work-up is ready to go to insurance for their approval, and who knows how long the ins. approval will take. I am estimating about 2 weeks, my experience has been that Blue Shield works pretty fast. My consult approval only took a couple of days. When I started this, I was really hoping to "beat the clock," and get the WLS done by end of Sept. But, I bet it will be in Oct.
Maybe we will be Oct. babies together!
Good luck!

I went for the psych/nutrition eval Tuesday...they deemed me sane and a great candidate for the surgery! I went to the surgeon today. All went well. I have to have an Upper GI done. Luckily I work for a group of GI docs, so I will be scoped this Tuesday. After that I guess it's all over but the waiting!!!! I am hoping for an October date as well. I did tell my doc about this site so he can tell others. It's a great place to learn! Also, I did lots of reading between here and the lapband forum and it made it so easy to choose which procedure is right for me. Bypass is the answer for me. I can totally see myself failing with the lapband. I also am in no mood to go for those fills! Doesn't even sound like fun! I'll keep you posted when I get a date. Thank you all for your kind words and honesty.
