True yet not true why,
I can do a 20 minute cardio much easier than I can 40 minutes, see I have 2 jobs work 12-14 hours a day got allot of outside activities involving my church so I don't have the time to spend on a cardio machine all day.
I lost 35 lbs of bodyfat and retained my muscle in 12 weeks with only 4 hours of excercise a week and have kept if off for the last 5 years eating 6 meals a day and excersing.
It isn't about getting the heart rate up and keeping it up it's getting the heart rate up and for short burst to keep your body from getting use to the program.
How many times have you seen overweight people that did some really hard jobs, involved allot of work..most likely often....Ok why because 2 things diet and the body has gotten use to the work so it doesn't do the job it use to.
By going up and down with your heart rate it is impossible for your body to get use to this thus it continues to work and can be done on any and every type of cardio.
Another thing to remember 70% of any weight loss program is what you eat 30% from working out.
We all have the attitude more is better not correct your body will adapt to one type of get the heart rate up thing and keep it up, modify change up do different muscle groups different weights different cardio. Keep it mixed up keep it fun and keep it simple.
We as humans tend to believe if it isn't complicated it must not be right. Time is importnat get in and get out when in the gym ..this is not social hour workout hard and steady keep the heart pumping when doing the weights as well.
O yea did you know you burn more calories lifitng weights than cardio if when you lift you work out like it is cardio resting only a minute or so between sets.

Everything that we have read says the longer workout is better because of your heart rate. You will burn more calories with working out 40 min instead of 20 min. It will take your heart rate a few min to get up to a comfortable zone to burn calories. The longer you can keep it high the better.
The best thing I can say is find something you enjoy doing or even someone you enjoy being around and want to spend more time with. For me it is running and I run 4-5 days a week any where from 10-14 miles a week. I want to work up to 20 miles a week and my husband and I do it together.
Just my thoughts.
