Hi everybody, its been awhile since I have posted (not that I have ever been much of a poster ~ more of a lurker) and its even been a while since I have lurked.
I have realized how important this forum is. I had my surgery in Feb. and thought I didnt need support anymore. I thought all the support that I needed was before surgery, you know, people to encourage me that I was making the right choice. Well even though I have lost 78 pounds since I started this journey, I saw and felt myself slipping back into old habits. I started drinking before, during and after my meals, I was snacking...constantly, mostly on crackers, cookies and chips, I wasnt eating my protein first, sometimes not even at all, I started drinking regular soda...the list goes on. The last month I was at 235, the scale would not move, well at least not down anyway, I would go up to 238 at times, and I finally admitted that I needed to break these habits again. I was slipping back into the old me. I was feeling pretty down about it on Sunday, so I decided to get back here and start reading threads again. That was all I needed. I got back on track that night, and since monday, the scale has moved down 3 pounds. Finally. I think I have read every thread on here since Monday, there was a post by Bridget that said one of the most important things to keep you on track is support groups...how true!! Its what keeps us motivated and focused to tackle each day. I have to admit, I didnt think that I needed support, I thought, i can do this, I dont need advice from anyone, wow, who was I kidding? I just discovered this week (from the boards) why we arent suppose to drink before and after meals. I always thought it was only because it could cause discomfort, and since it didnt bother me, I never followed that rule! No wonder I wanted to eat 15 minuted after I got done eating! So for anyone out there that doesnt realize the importance of having support and getting advice from others, now is the time! Dont ever think that this is something that you can do alone, like I did. Anyway, I just wanted to give a big thanks for everyone on this board, for all your successful and inspiring stories and all your wonderful advice. You all are the best. ![]()

I am so glad you found your way back with only a three pound fluctuation up rather than some who don't find their way back until it is 50 pounds up. By giving support to those after you, you reaffirm the rules and benefits of this procedure making them more engrained in you as well. A wonderful byproduct of lending support. Welcome back.

Prior to surgery, I asked my doc what was the single most important predictor of a successful outcome for GBS patients - expecting the answer to be that the younger and more physically fit they were going in, the better the outcome.
He said the single highest predictor of success was participation in a support group after surgery. Don't know where he got his stats, but I'm beginning to believe him.

Hey Chrissy, I am so happy to see you posted and that you realized what was holding you back. I don't post everyday on here but I do come by everyday to read. I'm glad I do because I have learned a lot from others. It's not too late to get back on track as you discovered so just keep doing what you're doing and those pounds will start flying right off.
Whenever you want to talk...just message me. *hugs*
