Default Skin Cancer

Here is one for you guys. I have just been told I have skin cancer....probably just a basal cell carcinoma which means that it is not a big deal, just treat it and thats it. My concern now is that word....cancer. Is this going to have an affect on my insurance approval? I do have very good insurance with Cigna and they do not balk at all about approving the WLS, but that was before they heard the word cancer. Any thoughts?

I have no idea how your insurance will react, but I am so sorry to hear about the cancer. I hope that it doesn't turn out to be too bad. My thoughts are with you!

I have had 6 skin cancer removals in the last 9 years including a major plastic surgery repair on my forehead. Nobody ever asked me anything about it nor did it ever come up in the 4 1/2 years it took me to get my surgery fully covered. Good luck with your skin cancer treatment and make sure you keep a good dermatologist that can check your entire body 2-3 times per year. My basal cell's started really early in my 30's. Not normal, but I caught most of them in time so that they didn't do any permanent damage.

I had it on my nose and didn't even know. My skin just kept peeling and peeling. I always go to the dermatologist once a year for a check. It was frozen off because it was in the pre-cancer stage. My Mom had part of her nose taken off because it was there longer.

I hope everything will be ok. Cancer is just a scary thing. I had cervical cancer and that is another silent one. I had no symptoms. I always like to throw that out there because it is very important for check-ups even though we may feel good, you never know.

Keep us posted. Sending positive thoughts your way.
