Stricture....Part Deux!!
Here I am at the beginning of week 4 post-op..thinking...Mmmmm I would really like some eggs, or cheese, or anything that would require CHEWING!! I have been on liquids for over a month now and I MISS chewing SOOOO BAD!!! Since I have this stupid stricture, I can't get anything thicker than a protein drink down....so I have been on clears and protein drinks since before surgery!!! UGH!!!
I guess I would call this BUYERS REMORSE. Right now I am waiting on the call from my Surgeon to let me know when we will be doing the next stretch. I soooooo wan't something other than liquids and to be able to drink more than 28-30oz a day....EEEkkkkEEEEkkkk.
Just some normalcy...PLEASE???!!!

Hang in there sweetie pie!! Buyers remorse is normal, but when you're feeling better and the pounds are flying off, and you're excited to give away all of your clothes...you will be happy you did it Sorry you're going through this yet again, honey bunny...

Crappy. At least is ONLY a stricture - they are easy to fix. Hats off to you for handling it....its been a long month...on the upside, you are probably loosing faster than normal. Hang in there girl, hopefully they can dialate you soon. I went 9 days with teaspoons of water...glad you can get in a protein drink at least!

Oh Lisa...I know exactly what you felt like. I can only get 1/4 of a tsp. in at a time. It's sip, then wait 3 min. Sip then wait...and more of that all through the day. SUCKS! If I get too much..I hurl, if I sip to quickly, same thing...it's a constant battle... So I really do know what you went through, and I am sooooo sorry you had to! Because I am only getting in tiny amounts it takes me a good 2 hrs. to drink those 8oz drinks...so I am mixing them with double strenght milk. Hopefully some of it will keep, and I can get the protein in at least. Someday I will look back on all this and think...Yep...it was worth it. Right now though...I'm not so sure!

Laura, I so know what you mean about buyers remorse. I have been kicking myself for having the surgery. When I was 7 days post op I woke up at 3 am in horrible, horrible pain. I was in so much pain my whole body was dripping with sweat and I was actually blacking out. Husband took me to ER and 3 hrs later I was back in the OR. I had a leak, a stitch that pulled loose or something like that. I spent 3 days in ICU during which time I received enough antibiotics to cure disease in a small country. Then I got to come home and start hell week all over. The recovery from the second surgery has been twice as hard as the first because my body was already weak. I know it will get better eventually but right now all I can think is what a huge mistake I made. I keep wondering if I will ever have another normal day. I try to keep my spirits up by telling myself that soon I will feel good and look good but its sure been hard.
Laura

Heavens to Betsy!!
Zen! Laura!
This is terrible! I am so sorry both of you have had troubles. It is just not all that common to have such complications - but we all know they are possible when we go into it - we just hope its not us.
So - all I can say is, it will get better but it will take some time. The surgery you had will change your whole life for the better. You just have to put up with the crap for a short while, and you're looking at decades of improved health and energy for your efforts. That is the pay-off! Don't forget where you'd be without the surgery - missing some years off your life-span!
If someone had told you there would be a month or two of crap to live through and that then you'd be in good shape, you might have done it anyway! The problem is we all hope for no problems and when they happen, we're REALLY frustrated - and rightly so.
You are going to be fine - this is temporary and we're all praying for you!! take it one day at a time, complain all you want and try to pamper yourself however you can. Expensive bath salts - back rubs - long showers - whatever gives you a few minutes of comfort.
Oh I just have to add one of my student's t-shirts. (He wore it to his final exam) it said, "Pain; the sensation as weakness leaves the body." I also always say to myself, "Pain is temporary, Pride is forever." Please don't give me the finger, I mean the best for you!
