Need Advise!
Hi All;
Okay, I've not been doing very good on the weight watchers point's system the past few weeks. I don't know, I just can't seem to keep my alloted daily points (30). Nevertheless, I'm still losing! Two weeks ago I lost a little over half a pound, then this past week I lost over 2 pounds!
I've not been able to exercise the past few weeks becuase I wiped out my back, so I'm not sure if this is normal or if I've built some momentum or what. One major thing I've changed in my diet is I'm eating much more fruit than ever before (banana's, oranges, pears and grapes). I'm snacking on them throughout the day, between meals. Hell, I even had a bowl of ice cream and a 24 ounce beer over the weekend (hey, it was HOT, and I deserved it. Besides, I drink probably two or three beers per YEAR (honestly), and don't touch the hard stuff.), and it didn't seem to do anything on my weight.
So, can someone tell me just what's going on? Yes, I'm a little freaked out - this has never happened to me before. No, I'm not going to keep it up - I'm really focusing on trying to limit myself to my 30 points.
Thanks all for your help.

Never question where there is a loss, my dear. The unexpected loss could be a multitude of factors. Look back at your journal to see what the past few weeks have held for you - all that fruit sure could be a contributing factor Congrats to you!!

Whole, fresh fruits have fiber. Fiber helps to keep blood sugars level and help to fill you up. Lots of viamins, minerals, and othe good chemicals included too.
Too bad post-op it's hard to enjoy too many fruits due to the sugar content. I guess I'm stuck with taking Juice Plus to supplement my diet...oh sometimes I miss the good ole days
Then again, i ate a ton of fruits and veggies pre-op....and didn't lose a pound Problably due to all the incindental foods like a large pizza, doughnuts by the dozen, and other overindulgences on a daily basis!

I'd eat my 30 points by 9:00am
Weight Watchers. ...............Hmmmmm, it was good. I like the support group when I was doing Weight Watchers, however I would eat my 30 points by 9:00am and feel hungry the rest of the day. Therefore, I ate the rest of the day.
Rancho Cucamonga??? Bought my first house there right out of high school in 75!
Good Luck to you!

You're going to think I'm crazy
Patrick,
This may sound nuts, but I noticed over the years of losing, gaining, losing, gaining, that change in exercise levels in and of itself would make me lose weight. You said in your post that you had stopped exercising, but were losing more weight. When that weight loss stalls, and you go back to exercising, you will again lose more weight. You'll stall again, but if you'll lay off the exercise for a week or two, you'll jumpstart.
This is a VERY personal observation--and bought at the cost of many pounds gained and lost over the years. I don't know if it works the same way for everyone. It just worked that way for me.

Depending how hard you were working out and how long you slowed down....it could also be that you lost muscle. It weighs more than fat. So, when you get back to it you might gain a pound or two of muscle before the weight starts dropping from the sped up metabolism. But you are doing great! I wonder if maybe you just are so used to being "good", that straying a little made you think you ate more than you actually did. Either way, hang in there and jump back in. We're rooting for you.

Thanks everyone!
I thought my body was "freakin" out on me.
Marty, I think you may be right, but it's so difficult with my back the way it is. It's feeling better, and now it's turning into good days and bad days now. One day I feel great, the next day it hurts like hell.
This is the one thing that is really scaring me, if it gets to the point I can't walk or have difficulty walking. The doctor verified the degenerative arthritis - from way back when the military first diagnosed it.
My first priority is my weight. I gotta get the weight off if I have any chance of at least slowing down the arthritis.
love ya all!

That makes it so much tougher for you. Has your doc suggested anything you can do in spite of your back? I would guess water walking and exercising might be best. Many swear by it, but I have a confession.....before surgery I used to do it, and I loved it.......but by the time I was done I was ready to consume the world! I drove directly to lunch. I can't remember though if I was eating breakfast back then. But it absolutely made me ravenous. Maybe it doesn't do that to others, but if I do it now by golly I'll have a healthy snack or protein drink ready. lol What about the mini trampoline? Is that something your back could do? Anyhow, you know we all love you and are behind you 100%. You are doing great!

Sometimes what happens is when you are following a diet, and then have a "cheating" moment, it tricks your metabolism into working off the extra calories. IF done right, a "cheat day" can trip up a plateau, according to a trainer I know. hope this helps.
